Larnaca, Cyprus

We spent a week in Paphos over the summer with our 4 year old daughter. My clubbing days are long over and without seeking that out we didn't come across it. Found lots of gorgeous food and the local wine's a bargain and tasty. We rented a car and spent a day driving to and from (in addition to visiting) Nicosia and a saunter across the border. Well worth a visit.
We also spent another day in Limassol, again, great restaurants, a castle, a museum. Hot weather.

Spent a day heading into the troodos mountains. That's worth the trip.

Didn't make it as far as Larnaca so can't comment on that specifically.

We found the places we visited easy to visit as a tourist (the aforementioned restaurants etc) but didn't find it anything like Alicante in Spain full of ex-pats, or to be overrun with tourists.

We had a great time and at no point thought "Uh oh squaddies", or indeed "Uh oh Ruskies".

Sworn off Europcar after they skanked me for £400 of fake damage charges at Ibiza Airport.....

(Thanks though)

It depends on the country I think.
I recently crashed my Europcar rental (VW Estate) in Sardinia (reversed into another driver - mashed up bonnet and bumper).
When I took it back to the office, they looked at it and chose to ignore.
Much more laid back - it really depends on the country and I not had any issues in Cyprus.
