laptop screen nonsense

Throbbing Angel

this is no longer a place of honour
Hello,

I have an aged laptop that is failingin many ways physically.

Tonight when I resumed from hibernation, the screen came on but only just.
You could see what was on the screen, the webpage I'd left up, but there was no backlight/light effectively.

Is it dying?

One of the hinges is starting to lift the speaker on that side when you open it up. All the tension has gone out of the hinges so the screen flops around a fair bit, there are a couple of places where it will stay and as long as I don't move my knees it is OK, but it will sometimes just fall forward or back - which does it no favours at all I now but it is unavoidable.

So, what is likely to be causing this dark screen - is the screen flopping about pulling a cable that passes through the hinge? or something?

hmm

would a loose connection just come loose when the screen is in the upright position when being used?

I have no experience of this fault unfortunately/fortunately

I imagine it is a real ballache trying to check if it is a loose connection too huh?
