Help Laptop keys giving up the ghost

For no apparent reason relating to external damage, the G key on my laptop began failing. Sometimes hitting it very hard brought it back. Then even that didn't work.

Now I'm having the same problem with keys on the right side. Again banging might bring them back, but no longer. Is there any easy way out of this lipogram without plugging in another keyboard, which is impractical?

Sometimes they get stuck so a good clean will sort it but that usually affects a group of keys in one area of the keyboard. In the past I've opened up a laptop to check the keyboard ribbon connector is still plugged in properly and the keyboard membrane is clean and working properly but it's a tricky job on most modern laptops.

Sounds like a repair job to me.

With my old laptop, I pulled each of the keys off, and cleaned the space underneath. Lots of crumbs as well as dust.

Don’t know if you can do that with modern laptops, but it sorted mine out.
hadn't thought of popping them off

my ancient laptop has about 7 random keys that have failed. I only really use it to watch videos so aside from changing my password and occasionally using a usb keyboard like you say or the on-screen keyboard hasn't made a lot of difference.

Back in the days when you crumbled soap bar into your spliff, I got a spliff's worth by inverting the keyboard and tapping it vigorously on the desk. :)

I had a dell Lattitude which was really nice. Then it stopped letting me log in, turned out one of the keys of my password had failed. I was able to buy a replacement keyboard from Dell and normal service ensued.
