I don't have itunes...? was that in the logfile?
There was this entry
23 - Service: iPodService - Apple Computer, Inc. - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe

(I assumed that this came with iTunes)

There's a lot going on but I don't see anything much suspicious.

A tip for when it's slow. If you press Ctrl-Shift-Escape and go to the Processes tab. By clicking the headers you can sort the columns by various things. Try CPU and memory usage (or peak mem usage too) such that they're in descending order, and see what's listed at the top of either.

Doesn't Realplayer install this these days? I think it's on mine too.

I'm pretty sure that arsing QuickTime installs that unwanted piece of cack without an invitation.

I agree. It's a nightmare. My digital camera software insists on it and I can't get the Alternative to work properly.

If you're hard drive is about to fail, worst thing you can do is run a defrag. It's just enough to push the drive over the edge and into the realms of irretrivable data.

Definitely worth downloading some sort of low-level drive utility from the hard drive manufacturer's website to check if there is a problem developing. If the disk is about to go tits up it's pointless installing extra stuff on it.
