Ok, right now I really wish I had something other than carpet. daughter is not quite pottytrained and had the squits this afternoon. I've cleaned it several times and it still stinks.
I think laminate flooring may be layed ahead of schedule. I'm considering a run up to B&Q for some cheapish stuff this weekend. i'ts got to be better than green carpet with brownish blotches.
We spent quite a bit on our laminate because tbh.. I wanted bamboo but gaijinboy wanted laminate (he's so practical.... ) so we went for a compromise.
But, my mum got really cheap laminate (also from B&Q as it happens) and it looks quite nice. I think - to add to what some others have said on here - if you avoid the super super pale beech type stuff it looks better!
I did, however, just last night, receive a huge basket of lovely flowers from the carpet fitters 'Dear Mrs Groucho, Thank you very much for your custom. Carpet people.'
That's nice innit?
btw If anyone fancies becoming Mrs Groucho, if you act quick there's a big basket of flowers in it for you...
2 years ago, we covered our crap, gappy original floorboards with that thin foam insulation then just laid new t&g floorboards on top of them then varnished them with half a dozen layers of floor varnish. It was cheap, looks great, is easy to clean and is very warm. It took about a day to lay the floor and another couple of days to finish the varnishing. It cost a little bit more than the cheapest laminate but was a lot cheaper than either good carpet or laminate.
