Lambeth Country Show 2009 - 18th/19th July

And the 19th is 'The Big Lunch' which they've just started advertising on the telly. Wonder if that will effect attendance...

probably not, this is the "have lunch with your neighbours in your street thing" right? I am not sure that there are a huge number of roads in Brixton that are really suitable cos of traffic (probably wrong about this).

But besides that, you dont get steam engines or owls or farm animals, or vegtable animals, jerk chicken or cider or a big assed stage at the big lunch...but you do at the Country Fair which is going to be superior by a country mile :D:D

COUNTRY FAIR RULES !!!!!!:)

*has a lie down*

part of the appeal is that its a big lunch in organised in Brockwell Gate developments....park goodness!¬

This. Do they not use buses in North London?
:hmm: They're a strange bunch, them that lives on the wrong side of the river. :hmm:

They're scared.

Seriously.

You tell em they have to take a bus down here and they're like fucking Lady Bracknell... "A BUUUUS????!"

Also, this year will involve a) seeing lots of stuff, and b) not drinking massive amounts of cider and sitting in the same place for eight hours.

Turns out the MD of the Big Lunch is a Poet's Corner resident...so we're going to try and persuade Lambeth to let us have one street for the afternoon... :)

Hopefully this year I won't be as shy as last year when I tiptoed past the back of the chucklehead tent pretending not to look at all the urbanites. at self.

And hopefully this year Mr VM won't render himself senseless on the dragon breath chilli sauce. :D

this is why we need the alternative urban vegetable sculpture competition to lure people in

They're having one on Mayall Road. We always used to have street parties apparently until the health and safety police made it too expensive/difficult. The Mayall Rd street parties have even been featured in the Observer. It will be good to see the tradition reintroduced. :)

Yeah - there's also going to be one on Chaucer Road for all the Poet's Corner streets (there's already the potential for 480 people at the Mayall Road one!). Leaflets will be stuck through letter boxes shortly...

Apparently next year it won't clash with LCS

That presumably means that Milton road gets the Poets Corner streetparty plus the Regent road one (which is joint with Milton since it's celebrating 150 years of the Prince Regent). Greedy buggers. :D

Transport

From North London
Get to Kings Cross
Get onto a Thamslink train to Sutton
Get off at Herne hill
Walk across the road and into the park

Half an hour tops - including the crappy Pick yer Willy line to KX!!!!!:D:D

The Thameslink service is running both days

I don't think so:confused:

I should think so. I propose not doing it right at the back door of the cider bar this time. Hardly saw any of the show last year!

looking forward to this immensely.
went to kirkstall fair in leeds at the weekend and it wasn't a patch on the lambeth show

Loadsa tents went up this morning... every morning I go through the park and I just get more and more excited as the week goes on.
