Ladies, talk to me about bras

you can have mine madusa - they're like sacks now with nipples like pencil stubs :(

((((younger pre-preg boobs))))

That's what I have... two socks with a grape in each on my chest. And I havent even had a baby to show for it! :(

Thanks, this thread has been very informative (not to say amusing!) I finally forced myself to go bra shop a few weeks ago, not having bought a new one for literally years coz I hate it so much. Gave myself plenty of time, got measured, tried on loads and loads and came out with three that fitted and I liked. I work part time so I can go to the shops when they're not busy which is a bonus. I've never got on with underwiring, even in the right size, they just don't seem to be me in the same way that I've never found jeans comfortable even when they fit. I do lots of walking and gym so I'm not comfortable unsupported.

I would like to reiterate the getting measured thing, I was wearing 36c for all my life and wondered why i was always hitching the back down and getting marks on my shoulders and boobs - then I got measured at a little shop near me - v posh it was - turns out im a 32d - have now restocked my underwear draw in all the right sizes - anything from £30 to £6 - and have v happy boobs.

And my boyfriend is pleased I have gone up a cup size without the need for a bank loan! :)

Hmmm...I might go and get measured again soon. I do always try bras on before I buy them, but it would be interesting to get a professional's opinion on my size.

*tries to help madusa realise that big boobs ain't all that*
  • you don't have to spend £30+ on a bra (even if it's a style that's a bit pants, but cos it's in your size)
  • no back ache
  • no dents in your shoulders from bra straps
the only upside is, is the comedy value of having your bra on your other halfs head and his head being smaller than one of your boobs ;) :D

oh, and you can stash more stuff in a bigger bra (other than jubblies of course)
I concur wholeheartedly Tanky. Even the bra on head thing :o :D 42GG here and I love and hate bras in equal measures but I do agree it definitely helps to get fitted properly.

I went and got measured the other day, hopefull that they would tell me a size up or something cos you know, 'Lots of women wear the wrong size, etc' But noooo, do I get to go out and excitedly purchase a string of new bras in a C or something. No.

'Yep, you're a 34B, my lovely. We have some lovely ranges...'

:( Yeah, cheers for that! I scuttered out the shop the same size as I went in. :(
I may have to get a second opinion.

34Bs are not small tits! I used to have 34Bs madam, and I can assure you they were a perfect handful

Now they're 36Cs and ping off in opposite directions as soon as I de-bra :(

apparently marks and sparks measure differently to john lewis.
according to my mate who got measured in both, on the same day, and got given two different sizes

((((may's pingy tits))))

I like booby smilies.

This is me at work leaning on the desk trying to read my laptop

:D :D

But but... mine are probably a small 34B and yours were at the top, more desirable, bigger end of 34B. :D

*Perks up* How'd you manage to get up to 36C anyhows? :)

Another tedious fact (at least for me, I'm sure for loads of others) is that my bust sizes varies according to time of the month.

I put on about 2 stone :(

Still, at least I'm still in proportion :)

marks and sparksles sell a smaller range of sizes than john lewis, which may explain their reputation for dodgy fitting on larger sizes.

Well, I got measured in M&S and she told me I'm a 36DD or 36E, so I've bought two bras which are 36DD (couldn't find them in 36E) and they seem to fit well - both Triumph.

I also bought two Debenhams 36DD and they are too small.

I was told by John lewis fitting lady back in (uhhh) 95ish that M&S bras are more generous on the back/band size than other makes.

Also read on some website somewhere that once you get up into the 40s don't bother adding on the 5 or so inches from your measurement. Seems to work for me (42DD - and changing).
