Labours only hope now...

Well I wouldn't vote for Labour if they had Brown as chancellor. He is a Tory when it comes to economics. The reason that Labour have had such a big loss is not because people want conservative politics, but because they have got fed up with the brand of conservative politics that NewLabour have provided.

The voters just wanted to change the brand name of the product I suspect, just like sometimes people change from one brand of petrol to another, only to find it is all the same. There is no hope for Labour, but then they deserve that, because they took away the great hopes that people had in 97. I cannot see any purpose in the Labour Party continuing to exist.

i'll drink to that

In some possible cheering-up news, there is a small rebellion going on right now with regards to the Temporary & Agency Workers Bill, where some Labour rebels and the Lib Dems are looking to get past the Second Reading, the committee stage being tommorrow.

Sadly, it is being half-opposed, half-ignored by some random minister and a particularly odious and callow youth posing as some form of Shadow Employment Minister.

edit: apparently, the Govt are not in favour of the Bill but are not opposing money going to the Bill if it passes.

It would be considerably better if they got rid of Brown, gave the job to McDonnell and let him fix things - renationalize the railways, end airport expansion and subsidy, bring about a fairer tax regime, stop interference and the snide privatization of the NHS, finally kill the utter bollocks ID Card scheme and sundry other nonsensical bollocks that Brown and his smug predecessor are responsible for.

While usually I would agree with this , the problem is now that it would be too late to do all this.

1.The Labour Leader job is like the poison chalice. It would put a left leader into a job that will oversea defeat at the next election.Then all the Blairites/Tories will scream, told you so, radical policies loses elections, just like in the 80s and 90s.

2.The Labour Party structurally and organisationally not fit for purpose. It would need an entire revolution in the LP itself to change it back to a proper workers organisation.

3. the party is full of trendy middle class wankers and their focus groups and 'newlabourspeak'!! Unless you go in there with guns loaded so to speak, and fuck emn off into the Liberals or the Tories they wont go no where.

Unfortunately there may be a certain logic in saying lets wait for defeat at the next general election.But who wants the fucking Tories back?

I'll get me coat.

There are certain points in that which I agree with:

i) It is the poison chalice at the moment - but lets not forget that less than a year ago Cameron was under severe pressure building up to the party conference season, there is every chance that the restoration of some sanity and imposition of a coherent (or lets face it, any) direction at the top could well swing things back the other way;

ii) I agree the LP needs change, albeit this is more about the top not abusing its position over the rest;

iii) yes, it is full of careerists but the advantage of that is that they have a career to blackmail them with.

:D

This is, increasingly, also true of the far-left (or ex-far left as it ought to be called).

Mascara-Boy Purnell is on the Daily Politics now claiming that the issues he has come across on the desktop relate to this idea of "the squeezed middle (class)" ( :rolleyes: ) and expanded a little more on the immigration changes coming up - and refused to deny when pressed by Andrew Neil (who would have thought the likes of him would be pointing this shit out eh?) that this is "British Jobs for British Workers".

Neil is now busily deflating the Government's argument on the 10p tax row.

:D

The EU said that "British Jobs for British Workers" is illegal, so he's obv trying to give the impression that this is the real policy without saying as much - someone will hammer him on that. It sounds like neill should have.

He did, it was very funny. Purnell is now calling himself an Evertonian... :mad:

Labour are dead to think they have one last hope is a joke

what we have are corperate multinational administrators whose only ideaology is to make money.

I heard a funny rumour today, David Cameron's considering backing a referendum for independence in Scotland. The thinking being that they can't win there and Labour can't win a General Election without it. Letting Scotland go will effectively mean there wont be a Labour government again leading to the demise of the party...

I think, perhaps like Labour, he's hoping that the referendum will say No to secession, after which point the question will be buried for a good few more years.

yes., but that is why Nl is fucked, Purnell is a fanatic and NL's Portillo (early 90's vintage) i predict he will crash and burn.
