La Liga 2006/07

I loving this...:D First choice strikers - horseface, over the hill, pie boy and spotty.

The thought of Emerson against Xavi is warming my heart.

spanish community shield this evening, two legs, first one at the olympic stadium this evening. 21:00 skysports.

barcelona have everyone but van Bommel and Saviola. Espanyol are going to get pasted.
come on pericos.

Yes you are :D

Could be a close season - hell even Nastic are building a decent squad, buying up Barca B players and a few Real rejects!

i'm getting really worried that espanyol are going to get relegated. if luis luis doesn't step up to the plate and somehow manage to score from nowhere at least once every other game we're stuffed.
Real Zaragoza are going to be top 6 though....

I thought you'd be in Saviola this summer, or even Portillo to boost the strikers. You're right, bottom half for Espanyol I think, and a dog fight - Zara will be good, Sociedad will up their game, Betis can't be as bad as last season.

betis can't be as bad but jaquin wants to leave.

last night, first 30 were alright after that they seemed to get tired and Barcelona came into it a bit more. Why do good teams always seem to score just before the break.
De la Pena was very disappointing and Tamudo showed his diving ability on more than one occasion.
Ronaldinho looked like he had a bit of a temper on him, that elbow in the first half merited a yellow and once again his tricks only came out of the box when his side had stamped their authority and were cruising. It's a little bit disrespectful, if he uses them to stamp authority then fine, but waiting until the others are shattered and then pleasing the crowd, i'm not so sure. But then, I just don't like Ronaldinho, unlike the Sky commentators.

I think Ronny feels he has a lot to prove after a very, very poor World Cup. I agree it can seem a bit disrespectful but that's kinda the way he is. The elbow was bad and warranted a card for sure!

The positive for Barca is that Guily and Xavi both look in very good form and will be key men this season. I honestly think is Xavi hadn't missed half of last season we'd have won the title by a greater margin.

Espanyol need De La Pena to be at his best or they lack options and, more importantly, goals.

2nd leg was much better - nice work from Xavi and Deco, good strop from Eto'o :D

Seem slike Laporta will contine as president for 4 more years because no one else has managed to secure the 1,800-ish votes from memebers to challenge him.

There's still some confusion over the Primera.

A preliminary timetable has been announced, although it is still not clear which television channel will be showing Saturday night's live game

The matches involving Barcelona and Sevilla will be postponed until later in the following week due to the European Supercup on the 25th!

Just managed to see the Hans Gamper game - and wow, Bayern were a shambles, but we completely dominated them. 4-0 was a fair reflection of the complete control we had.

And we're off :D Good first weekend all round - some good games, red cards, new teams and managers and Atleti not playing in red and white stripes for the first time in about 95 years

Capello's new-look Real managed a stunning 0-0 draw with Villarreal at the Bernabeu. All four new signings made their debuts and were very average - RvN had a few efforts, but nothing special.

City neighbours Atleti won on the first day for the first time in 10 years under new coach Aguirre, Torres getting the only goal in a 1-0 win over Santander. Still, beign Atleti, they did well to hold on to the end after debutant Seitaridis was sent off close to half time.

Getafe got off to a great start, desptie losing defensive rock Pernia in the summer, beating a lacklustre Osasuna 2-0. Celestini opened the scoring with a long shot in the second half, and Nacho wrapped things up a few minutes later.

The much-changed Depor won 3-2 against Zaragoza depsite going behind to a D. Milito goal. Sergio scored whatr can only be described as a very dodgy penalty decision..but not the last i'm sure!

Pity Mrkikiet as new boys Nàstic beat neighbours Espanyol 0-1 at Montjuic with Campano scoring after a quick break away early in the second half. Newly promoted Recreativo scraped a point in the last minute in a 1-1 draw with Mallorca. Arango appeared to have given the visitors the victory when he struck a spectacular volley past Toño four minutes from the end, but Cazorla equalised in injury time with a shot which Prats could only push back in to his own net.

The last game of Saturday also ended in a 1-1 draw, Real Sociedad levelling the scores near the end with a goal from Aranburu against Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao. Moer controversy as the referee's assistant signalling a penalty for hand ball when it appeared to hit Aduriz on the arm. Aduriz himself converted the kick!

Valencia opened the new season with a 2-1 win over Betis in a packed Mestalla stadium. New signing Fernando Morientes opened the scoring for the Chés on the half hour mark after David Villa and Edu combined to set him up.

And finally Barca who beat Celta Vigo 3-2 on Monday evening thanks to great work by Messi, Eto'o and Eidur - the latter settling matters in the 87th minute with a peach of a volley after Celta had a men sent off for a second yellow.

No point with the table yet as it's meaningless.

Why are Valencia called the Chés? I'm planning a trip there soon so I'd like to know, as well as any other relevant info. Such as, is it easy to get tickets for the Mestallla, what's the best area of the ground to go - or avoid - how to get there, anything really.

Los Ches, or Ches is a sort of slang term for "hey!" or so it's sort of an exclamation of surprise. It's how Guevera got his nickname because he used the term a lot. I think they got it because a lot of Valencian's use the phrasing, so it 's meant to represent the supporters.

There also called the Los Xotos, or The Goats. Never quite figured that one out - I mean there are a klto fo goats roudn that way, but still.

Tickets won't be a problem - book ahead if you want or go the day before to the box office (check the team site for opening times) and you'll get decent seats for about £15. As for where to sit - anywhere will do, it's a great ground with brilliant sight lines all the way around. Maybe avoid the upper tier of the East Stand if you suffer from vertigo :D

the Mestella is pretty central - nearest tube stop is Estación del Norte - mayeb get a taxi from there - it's about 15 minutes away on Avenedia de Suecia.

I love the Valencia CF badge...definitely one of the cooler ones. As for the bats...if your outside past about 9:30 at night in Valenica you'll see why that's on their crest :D

Is any of it going to be on terrestrial this season, do you know?
la sexta, possibly, and the autonomous channels if the sexta coverage is rubbish in that region, which it probably is.

we're not looking good.

In fairness although you played badly, I think Nastic are a handy team this season with the people they've signed. Too much is resting on Ivan and Garcia right now.

Right...week 2 has been and gone and it was a pretty interesting one.

Real hit the ground running with a 4-1 away win at Levante, Ruud helping himself to a hat-trick and missing a penalty! Real were good, but Levante did their level best to hand the game to the Castillians with two red cards and soem woeful ball control.

Barca had a similarly good game with a stuning first half against Osasuna - 3-0 up at half tiem thanks to two Eto'o goals and a Messi score. Osasuna looked a shadow of the trciky team from last season, although Barca were sublime for about 60 minutes. Biggest news was Puyol being on the bench for the first time in 5 years, with Thuram stepping into his role and performing very well.

Sevilla's goal-laden season continued with a 3-1 win at Sociedad. Looks like the UEFA holders could be real contenders so long as the first team stays fit and they aren't ransacked during the next transfer window. Potential title challengers Valencia also won 1-0 at Atleti through an early Villa goal.

Villareal's woes continued with a 1-0 loss to Huelva. Getafe beat Santander 1-0, while Mallorca drew 0-0 with Depor.

Newly promoted Nastic lost at home 2-1 to Celta, whio should be challenging for the UEFA places again this season. Betis showed good form beating Bilbao 3-0 and look to have put last season's pitful displays behind them. for now at least.

But the game of the weekend was at Zaragoza, where the home team beat Espanyol 3-0 thanks to goals from Aimar, Milito and Oscar. The game wasn't pretty though with 3 yellows and a red for Real and 5 yellows and a red for Espanyol! Not a good start for the Catalans - looks like it could be a long season at Montjuic.

This weekend's roudn of matches saw some interesting results.

Sevilla and Barca continue to set the pace. Sevilla won the city battle against Betis with tow goals from Kanoute and the winner from Renato in the 84th minute.

Barca beat Santander 3-0 away, Eto'o scoring early after a goalkeeping error, Guily adding a second towards the end, and Ronny getting a third from the spot in the last minute.

Real beat a poor Sociedad side 2-0 with second half goals from Reyes and Beckham. Aranbrau didn't help the away side by getting sent off. Valencia continue to impress with Morientes up front beating Getafe 2-0 at home.

Depor beat Villareal in the Saturday game, with the yellow submarines, so far, looking a shadow of last season's side.

Of the other potential title chasers, Atleti manged to prove they don't just have a good team on paper and might be able to challenge for honours this season.Atleti looked very handy in their 4-1 away demolition of Bilbao, with Meartin Petrov finally fulfilling the hype.

In other games, Espanyol got a much-needed win over a decent Celta side, beating them 2-1 at Montjuic.

Osasuna beat Nastic 2-0 through their usual Webo and Milosevic combo. Zaragoza beat Mallorca 2-0, while Levante beat Huelva 1-0, which could be significant come the end of the season.

Table after week 3:

Sevilla 9 +7
Barcelona 9 +7
Valencia 9 +4
Real Madrid 7 +5
Deportivo La Coruna 7 +3
Real Zaragoza 6 +4
Atletico Madrid 6 +3
Getafe 6 +1
Recreativo Huelva 4 --
Real Betis 3 +1
Celta Vigo 3 -1
Gimnastic 3 -2
Espanyol 3 -3
Osasuna 3 -3
Levante 3 -6
Mallorca 2 -2
Villarreal 1 -3
Real Sociedad 1 -4
Athletic Bilbao 1 -6
Racing Santander 0 -5
