La Liga 2005/06

He's alos done the most important thing to get respect in Spain - got long hair and a "batigol-esque" hair band. Respect :D

I firmly believe, and laugh all you want, Manchester United bought the poorer defender from Leeds.

Too true, and Ferguson, the twat, can't see a decent player until someone else does: we got Rio for £18m and they then paid £29m - astute as fuck

:)

Thank god for the unpredictable, attacking and high quality football of La Liga which is (for now) a welcome distraction from the negative dross served up by the English Premiershit.

it's like figo never left

ive put 5 quid on him not completing 45 minutes :)

Well the young man has made his mark...and own goal and a red card. Top stuff. :D

Oh and Real won 3-1, although Bilbao had quite a good game and hit the post a few times. Exteberria had another good game for them.

No idea on the betting stuff.

The Real fans seems to like him because he's bothered to learn Spanish, speaks to the press and fans at training in their language and has worked hard to be fit.

Another week and a few teams are hitting form - the big two both won, Real finally scoring some goals in their 3-0 win, alebit over a pretty poor Alaves side who on this form are heading straight back down.

Barca beat Real Betis 4-1 away, which was a great result for us- Ezquerro and Van Bommel both scored and Eto'o got 2.

At the top of the table  Celta contined a great run with a good 2-1 win over a very handy Sevilla side, while Atlei have continued their Jekyll and Hyde act by losing 1-0 to early pacesetters Getafe. Real Zaragoza and Deportivo La Coruna drew 1-1.

Valencia won 2 - 1 - Villa scored again and looks a good bet ruight now to start up front with Raul in the next internationals, unless Torres re-discovers his form.

Elsewhere Malaga thumped Mallorca 4-1 and Osasuna beat promoted Cadiz.
Athletic Bilbao's 0-0 draw with Racing Santander was notable only for 10 different players getting yellow cards.

Barca had a pretty hefty helping hand from betis being down to 10 for a decent proportion of the match. Also Eto'o looks to be absolutely obsessed by the pichichi this season, needlessly stealing the ball of maxi. ANd that penalty was a disaster. resting ronadinho and deco could well prove inspired.
Sevilla are looking pretty ropey at the moment.
Torres has never really had any form to speak of. Just everyone in the Spanish media loves him and he scores in the big games. Villa is a much better bet, works himself into the ground for the team. Still not entirely ertain about his finishing though, at Zaragoza he always needed too many chances to score.
mallorca are absolutely all over the place this season.
Espanyol were thoroughly outclassed by Villareal at the olympic stadium, although the winning goal was slightly fortuitous, goalkeeper failing to hold the ball. Riquelme vs de la peña only had one winner.

I'd prefer to see Reyes and Villa up front TBH - Morientes can't cut it, Raul is hopeless right now and Torres - well he was good 2 seasons ago, but at Atlti he shines amongst a fairly medicore team, although their squad is a lot better this year.

I think Deco was rested because of the CL this week. Eto'o was like that last season, maybe he is obsessed but if that obsession means another 25 goals then i'll take it. Maxi is still learning and needs to toughen up. I do wonder if Rijkaard might give Messi a run out this week, maybe play him just behind Eto'o.

barca fancy-dans

valencia to win la liga was lucky enough to
go to barc 2 valencia 2 last wed...
valencia cut barcelona to shreds, goooooooooo valencia

Have to say Barca were lucky this weeked to salvage a draw...we created loads of chances but didn't put them away and Zaragoza were controlling the game before they had a man sent off. Eto'o looks good though and with a bit more control at the back we could have done much better.

Getafe are still top after a good 2-1 victory over Valencia, who had Villa sent off in the last minute - Redondo scoring the winning goal - nice to see him back playing well.

Real were looking pretty ominous in their 4-1 win, albeit over a Mallorca side who looked destined for the drop.

Villarreal put the stuttering start behind them and beat Bilbao 3-1, playing the sort of football seen last season - mainly because Riquelme had his best game of the season.

Celta remain second after a 1-1 draw with Cadiz, who have looked much better than I imagined so far - altough there's a long way to go. Big surprise was Deportivo, who so far have looked solid, losing to a battling Osasuna. Espnayol drew 1-1 after a 90th minute own goal gifted a fairly lacklustre Sevilla a point.

Real have problems getting the formation right, but it's getting there.

Barca have problems at the back - Marquez isn't anywhere near as good as last season and i've never been sure about Belletti's ability. I'd prefer Rijkaard to stick with Oleguer and Puyol in the centre with Silvinho on the left.

barca were fucking gifted it, whatever the barca papers say it was a highly dubious penalty. valdes, once again, had a bit of a nightmare.

referees this weekend were shit. seconds before the espanyol own goal they had one disallowed for a phantom offside, ridiculous. Villa's sending off, what the hell was that for and what was wron with his second goal, anybody care to enlighten us.

Villareal played well becasue the opposition were down to 10 men for well over half of the match. they still needed a lot of opportunites befroe they actually managed to put any away.

I think I read Villa was for dissent....which is even stranger - he was angry because he'd been shown a red card  I thought Valenica were pretty unlucky, they've been playing some nice football.

I didn't see the Espnayol game, but for siome reason they get a lot of bizarre decisions go against them!

As for Barca - now that Messi has a spanish passport, I hope we can get Rustu back and at least challenge Valdes for the #1 jersey. Last year I think the defensive jitters were hidden to an extent by Marquez playing well in front of them. Now, he seems a bit lost not knowing whether Van Bommel will cover for him if he moves forward. Rijkaard has to get the midfield balance right.

I always suspected that our transfers this summer would be a problem. As good as Van Bommel is, and he's mighty handy to have in the squad, what Barca really need is another centre back so Oleguer can move to right back. Belletti is a liability right now - we should have moved earlier for Del Horno, or at least tried to sign defensive cover. Rumour has it we'll be signing Zambrotta, but that was also mentioned in the summer and in his place we got Ezquerro?!

van bommel (the diver) hasn't started enough games for that to be an excuse for marquez's poor performances.
Puyol looks less rock like. Aren't the problems at Right Bakc, whereas Del Horno is a left back.
The simple way to solve the midfield problem is to jettison van Bronkhorst.
Referees are under fire.
Espanyol have got a pretty tasty uefa cup group, as do sevilla.

I know...we're scoring plenty of goals, but unlike last season Marquez and the defence are gouign to sleep. Doesn't help having an inexperienced manager whose failings were covered last season by us playing very well. He has one way of playing and that's it - always attack, attack, attack.

We've turned into Newcastle under Keegan, just with better players! I got the feeling this season would show the weaknesses and looks like i'm right. Ont he up side, we didn't acutally lose the game...but i'm clutching at straws.

The biggest problem is buying midfielders when we needed defensive cover and a goalkeeper. Now that Messi is half-spanish (nice passport dealings  ) we have to get Rustu back and in the team.

Loved Beckham's response to being hit by things thrown by the Atleti fans - the apple eating was very funny. Nice to see Atleti's entie team trying to get booked too :D

What about Espanyol losing to Cadiz  I was sure Cadiz would be the whipping boys, but my, Espanyol were very poor.

Missed it, what did he do?

As for Barca, well I have no allegiances, so it was a cracking match to watch. Depor I thought were rather lucky to get a point, but were aided by some lousy defending.

Second half of last nights Bilbao-Sevilla match was also very entertaining - good defence by Sevilla to hold on.

And what the hell's going on with Osasuna?!

basically Espanyol are shit (european distractions..). nothing at all. three from four lost at home this season.
Real zaragoza and Getafe lose their unbeaten records. Zaragoza to some dreadful refereeing.
at the moment this season is a quinieala disaster.

Biggest surpirse for me is the abysmal performances by Bilbao - they really need to start picking up some points and soon. Last night was much better, but still didn't get anything from the game.

Dr - The Atleti fans were having a real go at Beckham - he was hit with a coin at one point and a few others fans chucked stuff at him. So at one point he picks up an apple someone had chucked takes a bite then spits it out with a smirk on his face. Genius :D

I don't know that Depor were lucky - they just made the most of the chances we handed to them on a plate

Bugger..forgot to do this last week :o

So, quite a bit of action this weekend...Barca stopped trhe diappointing run with a good 3-0 over Osasuna, but unfortunately we'll be without Belletti for at least a month and Deco for about the same amount of time. The good news was the stunning form of the newly Spanish (he's got his passport now...no one's sure how legal it is though) Messi, who looked the business....new Maradonna? Not yet....but has the potential for sure.

Headline news was Real's 2-1 loss to Valencia after they'd been playing much better the past 3-4 weeks...although Zidane missed a penalty. Real weren't helped of course by Gravesen and Beckham being sent off - Becks for a clumsy challenge and then a second yellow for mocking the Ref  over the first booking Villa once again looked in good form - just hope Aragones picks him for Spain!

Getafe go back to the top after crushing Zaragoza 5-2, with Celta back in second after a 1-0 win over Espanyol.

Biggest surprise of the week though was the fall and fall of Betis who somehow managed to lose 5-0 to Malaga...9 goals against in two games isn't looking good!

And congrats to Atleti and Racong Santander who managed to produce possibly the worst match i've ever seen in my life...which Atleti won 1-0

zaragoza made it a bit nervous for getafe, but just not quite enough.
Deco 3 weeks and belletti 6 is what the papers here are saying.
Espanyol lose again, even with further kameni heroics, a big club somewhere is going to snap him up soon.
Quiniela, virtually all 1s. amazing.

6 weeks...damn....coudl really show up how weak we are at the back. I know Van Bomell has played right back now for PSV and we might need him there to allow Guily into the team, possibly on the right hand side.

The comedy circus that is Joan Laporta continues...now that it's been revelaed his brother-in-law is a Francoist. Sandro Rossell must be killing himself with laughter...stikll set's up the November 20th nmatch nicely -as it needed more hype

Even the more ironic considering Beckham had criticised Rooney for doing pretty much the same thing last month.

Incidentally, the game between Madrid and Barcelona will be played on the 19th so at least the anniversary will be missed. Still, I'm sure the name 'Franco' won't be far away from the match for various reasons...

I know...just getting sick of it now!

I see Real are appealing the second too - from what i've seen he doesn't stand a chance of getting it taken away. But this being Spain that doesn't mean it won't happen!

Given Beckham's record, a cynic might be forgiven for wondering if he had a reason for wanting to dodge the game at Depor on Wednesday.

I realise this may sound a bit far-fetched, but doesn't Ducher still play for Depor, and wasn't he the one who broke Becks' foot, coincidentally in the season leading up to the last World Cup?
