That turned out to be much more exciting than I expected. Seeing Ineos usurped, and so thoroughly, was quite satisfying.

Porte seemed remarkably pragmatic considering how shit Trek were.

    Nice win for Alaphillipe earlier.
Good on the first day in France.

That was a fantastic ride from Alaphilippe, both his initial kick to pull clear and then his speed on the descent

In other news, good to see Specialised are embracing the Brompton style folding bike market:

Nice to see the Viviani smile at the post race interview.

I'd smile every day if I had Morkov and Richeze as lead outs. Shame he doesn't always follow them.

Jumbo Visma were all over the place on that run in. Utter shambles.

True, you rely on your team to get you into a good position. As you say the advantages missed would eventually start to piss folk off.

I do enjoy seeing the stages right from the start, it’s amazing just how hard riders have to go to form a breakaway, as well as the tactics in deciding who is allowed to go.

The more I watch yesterday's finish the more in awe I am of Morkov. Quite telling that Quickstep have extended his contract and are letting Viviani and Richeze go. Maybe he's just cheaper but is there anyone better in the peloton at picking a line or finding a space where there is none?

1927 Funnier than he thinks he is.

Think G has laid the law down in the ineos team with that finish.

Horrible finish...end of a long day, steep hill finish on gravel, phew. Alaphilippe did better than I expected. Thought Quintana would go with Lands, guess he couldn't. Good day for Gee. Haven't seen all the placings yet re. Bernal, Nibali and the Yate's.

Looked like Alaphilippe was in the big ring on that climb  That’s mental.

Absolutely, you could see at the end how much it had taken out and hurt him.

    What a brutal climb.

It puts the short 16% hill i did this morning into perspective

A nice gentle 230K to look forward to today, with a single cat 3 climb and a cat 4 or two.

    I've just seen it's a 10.00 start on ITV4
I'm going to be stuck at the bloody airport

He there been a dull stage yet? As first weeks of a GT go, this one has been rather good so far.

Brian Smith is one dull fucker. Considering a switch to ITV but have to say Wiggins is really worth listening to. Pity he's not on every day.

To be fair, it would take some sort of superhuman to make today’s stage exciting.

I am always impressed how much effort riders put in to getting back into the peloton after mechanicals.
Wout van Aert just now for example for Jumbo-Visma.

Good win by a rims width.
