Krispy Kreme Opened - Not Good News

i have a donut which i shall eat very soon

i love krispy kremes but i only have them once or twice a year . this may change however, as they have opened up a few near me now

paczki are the fucking business DC

TA=0.5 or0.25 Polish ;)
KK are fucking evil
I od'd on those fuckers in vegas
</sick>

We were in London a few weeks back and my mate had tokens for 2 free boxes of KK's.

I was gobsmacked at how much they cost. £1.35 for 1 doughnut.

Not my thing at all.

i've only ever been defeated by the doughnuts from the cake shop in soho - i have to cut them in half and have half later, and that doesnt often happen with me and cake.

this australian girl at work was raving about KK until eventually she bought a box in and gave me one. it was a total let down. i might have well have eaten a spoonful of sugar neat.

I don't know what you're all on about

I've never heard of Krispy Kreme  is it some kind of franchise that's mostly in London and what does it sell?

We certainly don't have such things about these parts.

they're american.

Anyone ever had a paczki (pronounced: poonch-key)? Its a decadent jelly filled polish doughnut made only before lent. Each one weights like half a pound and has like 600 calories :D

God, I love those. 'Course I'm half Polish, so I'm quite used to them.

KK's only really good donut is the plain glazed one. It's heavenly. The rest are nothing special by NA standards, but British donuts are so shite that they come off as some premium thing.

It doesn't bear thinking about what would happen to my waistline if Tim Horton's ever opened up in London.

thats great cause few have heard of them....only places with a big Polish population know of them. Even in America there are only well known in Detroit, NY, and New Orleans....

yea, americans know donuts which would explain our huge waist lines :D

Tim Hortons is expanding so you never know...

Not really a fan of kk, I'll eat one if someone brings them into work, but you tend to regret is shortly after. The stall at the entrance to the Stables Market in Camden does good doughnuts and they tend to sell them off cheap at the end of the day. :)

Found one of those places in Donegal. I got a couple of its doughnuts to see me on the way home. They were OK. :)

I've only ever had something from there once (at an airport, I think), but it was the single nastiest sweet thing I've ever had, and I had about 4 bites.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I was totally opposed to Krispy Kreme (mostly for the spelling crime I admit) until the book group won some money in a pub quiz and we had two boxes to accompany the donut book and I discovered I liked them. Not been tempted to buy one since, though, I much prefer chocolate cake/muffins.

The best donuts ever were from a bakery called "Dunkin' Do-nuts" somewhere near Blackfriars. They were open on Sundays so when my dad occasionally worked on a Sunday he'd bring a big box home and they were fabulous. I'm pretty sure it was an independent shop and nothing to do with the modern chain. That was in the 70s so I suppose they are long gone.

I find Krispy Kremes a bit boring really. They don't seem to taste of much at all. They do have a nice creamy texture but they are really nothing to write home about.

Having said that, I always manage to polish off at least 2 when someone brings a box into the office. That chocolate one is a bit yuk though. And most of the "cream" stuff is way to sweet for me so I tend to stick to the ring ones. Wouldn't bother buying them myself though - there's a Patisserie Valerie closer to the office....

The bastards have opened a Krispy Kreme between my walk from work to Liverpool Street station.

I have already had one this morning, and I am sorely temped to buy a dozen on the way home (to share with the other half obviously ;) )

I might as well just inject myself with lard and have done with it.

I am going to get sooooooooooooooo fat :(
They're fucked up. I tried them once when they opened in Euston. It was sort of nice but I felt weird and sickly afterwards.

I never let myself buy one when stoned. Given that it was 5 mins from my front door and how moreish I could imagine them being I probably dodged morbid obesity there.

Yes, I avoided the sickly-looking filled/heavilly coated ones. The more straightforward ones were actually quite nice.

But Krispy Kreme cook them on the premises.

That is one of the selling points - that red light goes on when they are cooking a fresh batch.

stupid argument. you could say the same about macdonald.

Down with this sort of thing.

e2a. Oh shit, that was off Galway wasn't it!

Enya is from Donegal though, so in the words of Alan Partidge - "Sail away, sail away...."

KK are the doughnut's nuts.

How anyone would want a Tesco's deep fried sugar coated lump of lard over what are the lightest tastiest nicest doughnuts ever. So damn good, I could eat 12 without too much difficulty.

YUM

I've terribly low standards when it comes to doughnuts, especially when I'm stoned, and I love KKs as well (fuck all you h8rz!) but one thing I'd love to see again are these cakes called 'Jaws' that a local bakery used to make in my home townne - basically a fluffy doughy sandwich about 8" long in a half moon shape, with about a litre of whipped cream and lashings of strawberry jam in the middle. Fucking lovely.

Guinessdrinker - It was a Tim Horton franchise, not KK. Things have changed but other things are the same as ever. The shop itself was very typically Irish & was there the last time I was in Donegal Town. The addition of a Horton's counter did little to change its character. :)

Decent coffee n'all. :)
