Krautrock recommendations please...

Sunspots

what's my mission now?...
I think I'm regressing to my teenage Kraftwerk obsession. I want to hear some more kosmische Krautrock...

I've long enjoyed yer Kraftwerk, yer Can and yer Neu! Have loved The Faust Tapes' more spikey moments.

Am listening to Harmonia's Dino at the mo', and like what I've heard of Cluster's Zuckerzeit.

Would quite like to check out some more Kluster/Cluster/Harmonia. Preferably dreamy stuff with that driving motorik beat.

I've never heard La Dusseldorf... -how do they compare? More driving, punky?

Really, I think I want this one:

Your recommendations please. :)

Yeah get that one, dino is probably the most rock/pop thing on there, lots of beautiful drum machine motorik, and Michael Rother's restrained lovelyness all over the place. Have you heard Faust IV? More conventional than Tapes, but my fave album of theirs, I even like the euro-skank number

I like what I've heard of La Dusseldorf (not a full album), but it doesn't match up to Neu!, less restrained, more cartoony, I would say less driving really, because there's more distinct melody which takes the emphasis off the drums.

Manuel Gottsching's E2-E4 proto-techno thingy certainly fits the requirement of dreamy and driving.

I've seen E2-E4 mentioned so many times over the years, but I've never checked it out 'cos it came out in 1984 and I expect it'll be too 'smooth' or ambient. I'm probably wrong though, it's just that I kind of prefer the early 70's stuff like early Can, Faust and Neu! 'cos it's got a spikey edge to it's repetition (IYKWIM!?). I'm kinda wary of checking out Tangerine Dream type stuff...

:)

I know very little about krautrock, though I like the little I know of Kraftwerk, Can & Tangerine Dream - I heard something tonight on R6 by Ashra Temple (Ambos/Traumachina) which was absolutely brilliant - quite ambient & dreamy.

(If the hippies in butcher's pic are this lot I'll send you a postcard from the hills I've run away to.... :o )

-Shit, I missed The Freakzone AGAIN, didn't I?!?... :o

That's what it was on, bloody good programme (apart from some bird singing what sounded like a bossa nova version of the entirety of Alice In Wonderland).

Do R6 do a "listen again" thing?

Yeah, and I'll have to check it out tomorrow. (-Not sure how long it's available though!)

Follow that link and I'm sure you'll find it... :)

Well might not be the best thing if you want proper spiky, cos it is smooth but closer to harmonia than tangerine dream.

Yep, get Aguirre as a matter of some urgency. Before the Creedence collected set volume 2. Fogerty will understand.

they did soundtracks for quite a few of his films..

They are pretty good soundtracks, I guess.

I just prefer the more hypnotic rhythmic stuff. -Y'know: Can, an' Neu!, an' that... Jaki is The Funky Drummer.
