Knocked off my bike in torrential rain this evening (unhurt but shaken up)

You can get high visibility workwear off eBay for about £3. Builder's jacket sort of thing. I just wear that if it's dark or raining - you need something more than lights in the rain, as they get lost in the sea of other traffic lights.

Thanks, ringo and everybody.

I'm pretty much OK today. Last night was a fucker, feeling really badly shaken up and jumpy, but I'm not nearly so bad now after a good night's sleep.

Just taking recovery/chilling time for today. Helped by a cyclist boss who although often a pain at other times about other stuff, is sympathetic about this.

Will be back at work tomorrow and back on my bike on Tuesday, and zenie has promised me a High Vis -- in my hands very soon, cheers zenes

ETA : Sorry Biddly, first dibs for me here!

I'm not a dad but helmet will be in the pipeline also, imminently.

Off to have a long relaxing bath! Days off rock ... erm, err, I mean I'm concentrating on recovery. Ahem! :p

Glad you're not injured, mate.

Good news for the sex workers in Aldershot, anyway.

In 14 years of cycling in London Ive been knocked off me bike 3 times all on roundabouts, does shake you up,the last time was about 6 years ago and the prick of a motorist did'nt even stop, just sped away,if I had an RPG that day

I think I need to get myself in a (minor) crash so I stop riding like a brain damaged missile :o

This potentially horrific incident, which I survived unhurt thank fuck, but quite shaken up, happened this evening in Brook Drive, Kennington. I was cycling very slowly, as I always do when the rain is bad. The driver drove out of the side entrance from my left, the road that leads to West Square. She clearly hadn't seen me (visibility was terrible, but she WAS very careless I reckon  )

She was going very slowly too, and struck the pannier of my bike -- rather than the bike itself -- side of car to side of bike, and I and bike was sent flying over. I gave her a bit of swearing intially but she was very apologetic, tried to help, etc. but I didn't want her to!

She was a slack cow though!

A buddy from my local was driving his black cab past a moment later and he picked me and bike up and took me home (free, I'll buy him a pint soon) ... another piece of luck.

I am completely unhurt, and so is my bike amazingly, but feeling somewhat shocked. Could have been so much worse. I guess I've been very lucky. Bike stays indoors unused until next week, I'll check it tomorrow to make sure it really is OK, but I'm not going to use it. Hoping for dry weather next week -- an improvement is forecast -- and I'll be ultra cautious for a while.

I may take tomorrow off ... not sure yet ....

Any other cyclists had narrow escapes?

I had some idiot in a white van pull out of a side road right in front of me on Clapham High Street once. I swerved to avoid him and tapped the back of his van, the next thing I hear is the squeal of rubber on tarmac as this lunatic tires to force me off the road. The worst part of it was, he thought he was in the right and demanded that I give him my details. I refused. I reported him to the police and it turned out that the van had ringed plates.

Helmet soon come, as well as high vis which is immediate.

I have been slack about those :o .
Good, I was on a bus on Lambeth Bridge that came dangerously close to you William, on a bright day (that time I jumped off the bus and we went to the pub near the Imperial War Museum). You weren't very noticeable because you are quite a quiet dresser.
