Knock knock - Guess who's probably comming back for more of our money?

My view is about 1/3 quick turn around 2/3 long hard recession right now. But I (and Id guess elbows) am of the opinion that there will be no complete pull out of this recession, this is it. This is the long emergency of dwindling energy resources.

I find it hard to weep for the shiny things I never had
Time for the left to wake up and start getting involved in local politics as much as possible. And that includes me.

oh yes. If we do enter economic freefall, we shall have to gaurd well against the rise of fash

Its already happening. Time is late, people from any leftish POV need to starting signing up too political parties and knocking on doorsteps. Engaging with the soon to be 3.5 million unemployed.

The bulkwark of a labour party machine closely attached to the working class and the unions has evaporated. In the face of a major recession in the UK, the left in the UK is in deep shit.

There were massive anti capitalist and anti globalisation riots in the early 2000s. Also there is a huge body of work about there goals and proposed solutions.

Yes I was guilty of totally forgetting about that stuff. And the internet shows us quite well that there are many people who dont like like the way things are, and would like a different form of economy. But this does not seem to have translated into a cohesive political force that has a loud voice with which to speak of these times.

The damage inflicted on capitalism and its institutions by itsef, by its own failings and greed, dwarfs anything opposing forces have been able to do to it over the decades.,The gaping holes in its ideological perimeter wall have yet to be exploited by those outside fortress glocapicorporatism.

The lack of co-ordinated protest might speak of:

- defeatism after being shat on continuously by the likes of G8, Iraq or continued eco destruction.

- Confusion / shock as to the roots of the current crisis. Be sure that the elite have looted or are looting the fruits of the labour of future generations. But it is presented as a kind of confusing crisis that only superbrains can get a grip of. That's basically a red herring. There's never too much that is complicated about fraud, greed, corruption and looting.

- The effects have maybe not hit home yet. With a war or trade justice we see the tangible affects and it moves us. Give it time and I think people will act both constructively (organising communities) and destructively (kicking off). We must see to it that any rebellion isnt essentially right wing (eg anti migrant) and instead is based on a critique of the state and banking forces that have colluded to land us in a very very deep hole.

Why not, seriously, just let them go bust. Maybe protect the retail depositors, but stuff the rest.

Who would really care?

Then just create some new banks and some new money (called "bobbins" or similar).

Giles..

at least all this is being discussed in Parliament and voted on.

oh, wait, nope - the executive is pissing our money up the wall with no legislation whatsofuckingever.
