Kneehigh Theatre - Rapunzel trip

Would anyone like to come to see Rapunzel put on by the Kneehigh Theatre (who did Nights at the Circus) on Thursday 11 January?

It's on at Battersea Arts Centre at 7:30pm and costs £20 normal or £12 students/kids.

So far interested are myself, possibly Alien Nation, Acid Priest, Zoeherself and Emerald - so far...

We're just going to buy our own tickets individually. :)

tickets bought! :)
I really enjoyed the last show the Kneehigh Theatre did...

(so did my mum, so I got her a ticket too...:) )

argggggggggggghhhhhhhh - just seen this is when the next bookgroup is... ah well - too late now...
bookgroup outing to the theatre anyone? :o

oooh - I might be up for this. I reckon we should change the BG to a different date, too :)

I like the fact that they're from Cornwall. They've done loads of stuff at the Minnack Theatre, haven't they, G.E?

Kneehigh have done a few shows at the Minack over the years, but much better have been their site specific productions around Cornwall and abroad.

We've got some excellent theatre down here

Madzone will be along in a minute to complain about Kneehigh hoovering up an over large share of arts funding in Cornwall at the expense of other smaller companies and to reminisce about the glory days of Footsbarn;)

Fuck off :p

I speak the truth :)

eta - you forgot to mention that hardly any of their actors are Cornish any more :p

Went to see it on my birthday - definitely no nudity in it  although there was the obligatory swing.. and a rather cute rabbit.

And Rapunzel came into the audience and gave my lovely husband a big hug and held his hand :D

I love Kneehigh, so :p to Madz!

Did they applaud the audience in a self deprecating, oh so sincere way?

Did you leave feeling loved?

:D

I sense irritation ;) - what is it with them Madzone? Really - I'm not being arsey - I've only seen one production and very much enjoyed it :)

I'm not irritated, just bored witless by Kneehigh. Ground Elder has already pointed out some of my issues with them. I know loads of people who've worked/still work for them/write for them and as individuals I like them. As a company however they annoy the tits off me. When Emma Rice came along they started doing fairy tale adaptations and quickly (IMVHO) became very formulaic. GE's also right about Footsbarn. The bloke who started Kneehigh was in my fathers theatre company and then went off to start Kneehigh and I always found them to be a poor mans Footsbarn (though last time I saw Footsbarn they were utterly shite  ) When I'm in the same room as Kneehigh en masse my Luvvy-o-meter starts twitching. It's a local thing - if you just see them once in a blue moon then you'll probably enjoy their shows. There's 2 distinct camps down here - those who would go just to watch Kneehigh take a shit on stage and those who find them a little wanky.

:D

eta - I hope you all have a fab time :)

:D Fair enough - luvvies = pain.

As an aside, I saw the girl who played Fevvers in Mrs Henderson Presents over Christmas - as one of the Windmill tableau girls.

I rather like Emma Rice.. I saw her adaptation of "Lulu" and thought it fucking ace. Of course, she is up her own arse a bit, but aren't all luvvies?

BC - the girl who'd go to see Kneehigh shit on a stage.

That's a yes isn't it? :D

I have to admit it's been a bit of an obstacle to my theatre career that I can't fucking stand most actors :D

Yeah - me too. I can't remember if they sent me the tickets and I've lost them or if i'm supposed to pick up at the theatre - I think the latter... does anyone else know? :(
