Kitteh!

MIne still do that after nearly 10 years.
Fourthed!

They were fighting between themselves this morning about a wooden bowl and who was gonna get the space as it's only large enough for one feline. Sachin won. Flinty retired to a rattanesque basket instead.

It's the fighting rabbit feet that get me. It's so funny to watch. One holds the other one's head with their front paws and then applies the back paws in a rabbit foot thumping manner. If you've ever seen cats do it you'll know what I mean. If not, meh :p

Oo Oo I know exactly what you mean! That's what my two do all the time, and it's always Pan that does the kangaroo kicking :D :D

Might be getting a kitten or two. GF reckons you have to get two for the same reason as above. Is that the best way then?

Will the house now get destroyed?

Does I haz to start speekz like I's bin on teh interweb?

It is generally best to get two if you're getting kittens, as they benefit from the company. Obviously if there's someone around most of the day, this doesn't apply. If you adopt an older cat there's less need - they've done their growing up and in many cases prefer being on their tod. There's always loads of adult cats in need of rehoming, so it's something to think about.

In some ways I wish I had been strong enough to resist the kitten and get an adult cat....but I folded :o Baby kitties are just too cute!

And yes, if you get any kittens, your house will be destroyed. Say goodbye to any much-loved soft furnishings now.

Oh, another thing....

Do you know HOW MUCH IT COSTS to fit a fucking cat flap?

Billions and billions of pounds, that's how much!!!

(may be prone to slight exaggeration. )

nooo!

We can not has kitteh!! :(

Cat protection shop phoned and said black Lindykitten (lindy= mum) has the shits and has gone off to the vet, so is no longer on offer for rehoming. :(

We has to go back on Saturday for looking at other, substandard kittehs.

karma

or whatever. You don't want shit or dead kittehs all over the shop do you?

You do realise this will now become a case of you didn't choose the cat, the chose you, don't you? :(

Oh well :(

Don't be fooled by the apparently laidback personalities of all the other kitts, btw - I picked my girlcat out of all her sisters because, while they were rough and tumbling with each other in silly kitty fashion, she was stashed away under a chair in the hall, watching everything with an intent look on her face. I thought she looked interesting, and so she has turned out to be :D She's a real character.

I just read this whole thread in a couple of minutes and it was like a rollercoaster soap opera :(

Get one and call it Trumpet :)

I want to call a kitten Trumpet.

You mean you think the cat didn't like us?

It did! It licked us both to see if we had a flavour!

We were always going on the 'cat chooses us' way, anyway. We weren't picking it purely on whether we could make it into a good lolcat you know.

There were other cats that looked much better for that, with big tiger eyes, but they didn't seem too interested in us, except for one which climbed on to my bag and kept trying to get in, bit then I realised it was because I'd been carrying cheese round in it the day before, so I left it in the corridoor after that. :D

Why can't you have the poeey kitty when it's all better?

Do you think it's like when people tell their kids that the old dog went to live on a farm? :(

Stig. Surely a woman like you can fit her own catflap? It's not hard!

sorry, I read that as find her own catflap at first. :D

I would give it a go except the back door is double glazed, and apparently that's a nightmare to cut as it will condense forever inside and won't seal correctly, so it's better to fit a whole new bottom panel.
But after looking, I'm not sure how to get the old panel out, let alone fit a new one. And we've been burgled once already through that back door, ...and it's not my house.

[/excuses]

Kitteh update!

We went back to the cat shop today.

What we had in mind was litter fostering. You can has a whole bucket of kittens! :D

http://www.northlondoncats.org.uk/foster2.html

What an excellent plan, you get the whole litter to look after for 9 weeks, to take some pressure off the cat home, and if you really get on with one or two you can keep them, otherwise you get a different bucket of kittens!

They said it wouldn't work because we lived too far away and didn't have a car, so it would be too tricky for them to keep an eye on them all, and for us to keep dropping in to pick up foods, medicines, litter, etc

But we had a look round and found our kittens! They are 15 weeks old, both male, one is all black and the other one is black and white. Neither of them has a hitler moustache.

The cat people came round this afternoon to view our properties. They said, 'this flat is sufficient'.

So we pick the kittehs up on Monday!

Right. where do we get a cat carrier from?

How much is all this neutering and injections and stuff going to cost?

What shall we call them???

NOT win and fail. Neither of them are a fail.

Did you know, when they get to a certain age, ALL ginger cats are going to look like the 'I'm poopin'' cat. I knows this because of my learnings.

I found the poopin' cat, in case you'd forgotten:

^^^^hahaha, they do look like that! There's a ginger kitteh lives somewhere around me and he's always scowling like he's really concentrating. Must keep an eye on the fucker as he often raids my cats' food bowls, don't want a shitting kitteh in the house

Argos do cat carriers and there's one in Tottenham Hale in that shopping bit by the tube.

Boys are cheaper than girls to get neutered, I think I paid about £30 for my fellas. Injections also about £30. That's PER CAT. Having two at once hurts your pocket a bit, but they're worth it! Other stuff like flea prevention/treatment you can get online. The stuff you get in supermarkets is a load of shite, go for something like frontline, widely avauilable on the net and much cheaper than getting it from a vet. I only use it when mine have fleas, which isn't all that often tbh, although if not treated you do risk infestation of your home. You might have to worm them occasionally. Thean there's insurance. I've not bothered with this so far but I'm thinking about it now...try online, the deals look a lot better.

Names? I'm a bit shit with names, but no cats are fail. Call them the first thing that you think of when you see them :)

AND don't forget the pics!!

cat people give you papers saying

do not buy the argos carrier

apparently, mice can break it. cats just wiggle the latch with their whiskers or someting.

Cheers ScallyWag for all your advices.

We are already resigned to the fact that the whole thing will cost us millions of pounds. :D
I will vertainly take your advice on most of that. Thanks!

the first thing I've done so far was sourcing cat litter made from recycled paper from here:
http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=7217&dept_id=165
no idea if that's a good price though?

Haven't actually paid for it yet, we just have a small amount of everything from the local supermarket so far.

Oh! I got one recently and took 3 six-month kits to the vet in it. It's not the sturdiest carrier I've come across though.

ETA also I took my lot in a car to the vets so I didn't have to carry the thing very far, not sure I would have been quite as confident with it if I'd had to walk there.

I pay about £4 for a 10 litre bag of recycled wood chip litter from morrisons. Whilst it's recycled and can be recycled itself, it's not dust free (if you get an enthusiastic poo hiding cat it gets chucked out of the tray a lot   :D ) and I keep finding bits of it all over the place. Like the paper stuff though it's not smelly, more than can be said for stuff like catsan which stinks!

I an remember buying a cardboard cat carrier from somewhere to get the cat to the vets.

Took him roughly 3 seconds to slice his way out :D

The carrier I use is a Pet Voyager 200 - although Radar managed to bend the door on it and eat the little plastic widget, but then Radar is Radar and is Not Like Normal Cats. There is a strong possibility though that as your kittens get older they will take exception to vet visits (once they've been a few times they realise it's not going to be a pleasant adventure!), and they know these things by telepathy - so looking at the long term, a top-loading carrier is far far easier if you have a struggling kitty!!!!

www.zooplus.co.uk is the best place to order cat food/supplies. Most of the food you find in supermarkets and pet shops is shit so I order decent stuff online (dry - Royal Canin or James Wellbeloved; wet - Almo Nature, Animonda, Cosma, Schesir, Bozita). Don't feed an all dry diet, feline nutritionists refer to it as 'diabetes in a bag', it's a major factor in obesity (too many carbs) and can contribute to urinary tract problems due to the lack of moisture. Not sure which of those wet brands do kitten food but you can check on the site.

Zooplus also sell pine pellet litter from sustainable sources, it's completely biodegradable (obviously) and is much better for odour control than recycled paper pellets and is very absorbant.
