What would happen if you were born the same distance between 1 ground and anothewr ? Could you play for both teams ?

yeah, but you'd have to left footed for one and right footed for the other

Anyway, Gary did play for the nearest club to where he was born.

It's traditional for the natives of small inconsequential towns to dislike their big neighbours, though given that many of your experiences of coming to Bristol must have been at Trashton I can hardly blame you for forming that opinion

No, my main experience was Broadmead (most weeks) and the X1 bus.

And the pizza place next to the hippodrome. Park St was ok.

However, Ashton Gate was the bright spot at 3pm (when Weston weren't at home or my grandad wanted to go) - I especially reminisce (spelling?) about Andy Cole scoring twice (I think) v Newcastle and singing 'keegan, what's the score?' - and then it being about 93 mins in and one or two whistling and the crowd going 'shut up - this is great' (Newcastle went up, but we beat them 3-0)

Ah yes, so the fact that Broadmead's a bit shit translates to the whole city

That was the same season we did you 4-0 live in glorious technicolour on HTV. Did you watch it? Did we make you cry? :p

Not me son. As always, I was pleased I wasn't Gas.

And you got it right once. And you're still enjoying it. I can understand that... a team more likely to be seeing the conference before it sees the league we're one of the contenders in has to live on past glories (even if they amount to one game)

Ah, well, we beat City 4-2 at Ashton Gate this year. That's my thought for the day.

Anyway, back to the King Herod Cup.

The chances of you being born equidistant to two teams are miniscule, are their any maternity wards situated exactly between two football grounds? If so, it could come down to what bed you were born in I suppose.

I think it would be dead good watching teams full of crap players with one world class player. I also think the central london clubs would be fucked, Chelsea and Fulham would have tiny catchment areas wouldn't they and say, Barnet would have as much as Arsenal pretty much.

It's the future!

Well, if Fcum count, I would have to support Salford City, not them cos they play out in Bury, which is nowhere near where I was born.

If it's about where you live now, then it's off to Highbury for me.

thought it would be summat like that :D

Nearest team to me are Rovers unless we're counting Lebeqs Tavern and whatnot

This was one of Danny Baker's best ideas years ago, which was that for one season only, players had to report to the football team nearest to their place of birth. The league would be run on these grounds for one season only, everyone starting equal in some kind of massive knockout cup stylee.

It would be better than the premiership no?

(not because it would get rid of forigners, just cos it would be so unpredictable)

Just came into my head cos some kids were singing about Herod in a carol service in the shops before.

If I can be bothered I'll do the Blackpool King Herod Cup team.

Good idea. Would be like the aussie state of origin thing

I'd qualify to play for Newcastle United.

I reckon they'd have quite a good team (even without me playing for them).

Great idea.

what team is nearest st thomas'?

i reckon west ham and leyton orient would be laughing
barts, the london, the homerton, newham, old church, king georges and mile end hospitals in such close proximity...
all of those senrab players would be for the taking
