Kinda Punky Folky Crusty Bands We Have Loved..

Just found their website. Looks like they've not released anything since 96 and the latest news from 02.05.2001 says:

The current state of PEH is as follows. No gigs are on the horizon but Phil, Pee, Bill, Al and Billy are still in regular contact and continue to work on musical ideas though whether these will translate into a live concept is as yet unclear.

Ah, OK, sorry to have claimed they might be still active :o

Based on a mismemory ... :(

I can still juggle!! :D (albeit badly) - which is actually a result of my mother trying to get rid of me on Saturdays as a kid by sending me to circus school where I failed spectacularly to tightrope walk/unicycle etc.. but I did also have a diabolo at one point.. which are great fun and rather easy... I was just in Granada last weekend and it seemed that 50% of the city had dreads and at nighttime got their drums/guitars/juggling balls and spliffs out to hang out on the streets... it was like a step back in time or being at a permanent festival...

There was once a lovely Mega City 4 t-shirt printed with 'Don't Even think Of Juggling Near Me'. I kick myself to this day that I didn't buy it

PEH were well cool - great hat mask things... Not really crusty folky sounds though.

One that hasn't appeared on the list yet - Scum of Toytown - saw them supoprting AOS3 once - top band.

Re: which was the greatest - Subhumans / Culture Shock / Citizen Fish - it's gotta be Culture Shock every time.

Here's a pointless story for you - my beloved Westone Concord III (that's a guitar for the non-musos) was bought for £60 from the bassist of an Exeter band called Madding Crowd (very good ska/dub sound) who had once lent it to Dick Lucas when they were supporting Culture Shock... My guitar was in Culture Shock! How cool is that?

No it hasn't...its the subhumans but it doesn't really matter :) I guess it depends how old you are and where you saw them in what state, the subhumans were technically and musically too good to be just a punk band....they went prog rock in their mid period (cradle to the grave) and then reverted to 'pop' for the excellent worlds apart. Culture shock fun but just trad festival ska/punk.

Fuckin' Jugglers

Lived with one for a while

You're lucky, I once lived in a house with 6 of the bastards. They weren't jugglers when we moved in btw.
Nowt worse than waking up hungover, looking out your window & seeing your garden taken over by hippies juggling, didn't really encourage me to get up

Did they make a noise, or were they just visually offensive to you?? :p

To me they're harmless background at festivals etc., easily sidestepped (and pointed and laughed at if you so require) on your way to the beer tent or the crusty punky folkie bands tent ...

Oh yeah, I hadn't seen so many crusties in one place since the 90's when I went to Granada last year. Beautiful place though.

Mainly visual although the girly giggling was a bit irritating:D
They were sound people, I just didn't get with their dreams of running away to the circus.
One of them did become a full-time street performer.
I think seeing any form of physical exercise first thing in the morning would have had a similar effect on me as I was a bit of an alkie at the time.

My wife brought me some juggling balls for Christmas a few years back saying 'it'd be nice for me to achieve something this year'.

And I did,so back at yer love :p

The drummer is now DJ'ing techno at Brummie club House of God under the name Sir Real.
Aren't they all? Old hippies never died - they just went clubbing and never came back!

Anyone for Scum Of Toytown?  desperate to find them on cd as recod been played to infinity....

Why didn't you ask me? I was playing 'Strike' the other night :)

Bit strange they cropped up actually as i haven't played the album for years and put it on the other night to counteract the slightly inebriated rocketmans playing of Borderline Cases for the third time :D
