Kid Congo Powers!

pk

drink flounce rinse repeat
Been after this version of La Historia de Un Amour for 17 fucking years, the album version is shite, this is the full version of the tune they part-played on Snub TV way back in '91.

Kid Congo Powers late 80's EP "In the Heat of The Night" was produced by Robin Guthrie, shot at Wigstock, Tompkins Square Park, NYC by Liz Seidman, and edited by Douglas Hart whom was the bass player in Jesus and Mary Chain.
Barry Adamson plays bass on this and Eddie "Tan Tan" Thriller plays Trumpet and Steve from Colourbox/MARRS (Pump UP The Volume) programed the drums..

Available on "Solo Cholo" on New York Night Train.

Turn it up loud and enjoy. Especially if slightly drunk.

And no it's not a rave tune!

Pretty amazing CV. He's been in The Gun Club, The Cramps, and The Bad Seeds. I saw him play with The Fur Bible, back in the day. A very cool guy.

I loved the Mother Juno album by The Gun Club. Robin Guthrie produced that one too.

You can hear his productions anywhere, it's the way he sticks the bass through a chorus unit and overdelays the guitars. Fucking lush sound.
Knows what he's doing with the drums too, no fannying about, they punch hard and clear like drums should.

Having been a big fan of the Cocteau Twins, you can actually track his progress as a producer from the early albums like Garlands, through to his use of beats in Treasure, to a more rounded sound in Blue Bell Knoll.

I thought the album he produced for Chapterhouse was the seminal Guthrie sound...

He's a great producer, and although I love drums, I really never liked the drums on Cocteau Twins records. Like you say, things got gradually more rounded with the excellent Blue Bell Knoll and beyond, but I do still find it hard to listen to things like Treasure.

Victorialand though... <sigh>

That is indeed a bit of a quality CV.

Moonlight and Melodies, or his co-pro stuff with This Mortal Coil or Harold Budd for me.
