Ken Loach wins Palme d'Or

I'm definitely going to see this film when it is available on general release. Any ideas when that is likely to happen...anyone?

Don't understand what "...and Prebble..." means here.

I'll leave you to wrap your heid around that, son. In the meantime, I've got a wedding to attend...so if you don't mind.

Are you, Nino? Personally I'm enjoying the absence of information to back up your previous claims. A not unanticipated absence.

Still calling me a liar (in an indirect and euphemistic way), Donna? I was going to say that I couldn't find the article that I read. I know what I read and I don't cvome here to lie. If you want a liar you've got the wrong man. But that won't stop you from insinuating that I'm dishonest...will it?

Just to finish: I've taken to reading between the lines as far as your posts are concerned since you seem incapable of being direct.

Feel free to wallow in your smug self satisfaction. I know you will.

Indeed I will.

Nino - I doubt very much you were lying, but it's quite clear to me that you remembered inaccurately and rather than admit that your knowledge of the subjedt was pretty thinn, you've squirmed all over the shop. It doesn't matter though - I knew you didn't know what you were talking about.

Even with this post I have to read between the lines. You're still calling me a liar but you lack the courage to come out and say it properly. I haven't "squirmed" as you put it. But then you're an arrogant, self-absorbed twat, aren't you?
Btw, the word "thin" has one "n".

Grow up, Nino (or is it Niño?). I've said what I thought amnd you don't like it so you're claiming I mean something else.

You really haven't got a leg to stand on here. You made a claim, made a big fuss about it and then didn't have a word of evidence to back it up. You could have gracefully withdrawn and failing that you could have wisely kept silent. Instead you prefer to make a further ass of yourself. Do proceed if you wish, but what's the point?

It's easy to tell someone to "grow up" when they've called you on something. Face it, Donna, you haven't the guts to call me a liar directly, you would much rather hide behind euphemisms.

Even in this post you display double standards. I told you that I couldn't find the article that I had read but you would much rather use the opportunity to belittle me.

I'm putting you on ignore. I have no time for sanctimonious, pompous, self-absorbed twats like you. I should have done this months ago.

"You must believe what I say even though I have no evidence."

Game set and match to me, I think. Next!

I was looking forward to reading the your link to the 1690 claim as it's a suject in which I have a little interest (but to my shame, not enough knowledge).

I can't see where DF called you a liar Nino, I can only see where he suspected you of being unsure of your ground. It seems he was right.

I'm afraid I also lack the 'guts' to call you a liar, Nino. But I will say that this thread has seen a good deal of smoke emanating from parts not unadjacent to your pants. I will also note that smoke rarely occurs without fire.

Is it conceivable that Nino is in some way getting confused with the Massacre of Glencoe? That event did indeed take place in the 1690s. (Prebble's book on the massacre is superb.)

Aye, I read the descriptions of the massacre and I thought 'if you change the names this could be something out of the Rwandan genocide'.

I was reading that 'best films of the year thread' and inspiration struck.

Sometimes you have to go the extra mile if you're going to skive properly.
