So we should give her a grammy for best bluegrass album?

I'm not saying there's no racism in the music business, I just don't think the grammy results are the most important manifestation of it. Whether artists get heard at all, or even get the chance to make music in the first place; that may be more important than who wins awards.
of course the grammys results aren't the most important manifestation of it - does that mean it should go unremarked?

Argue why it's poorly chosen.

You're aware that the word 'ghetto' in the context of American culture and history has a particular connotation with black people, and has been often been used as a derogatory shorthand for black communities in general? Calling a genre dominated by black artists a 'ghetto' seems in slightly poor taste to me is all.

I'm not calling a genre dominated by black artists a ghetto. I'm calling an award category all the black people are shoved into a ghetto. I chose the word because of it's connotations.

Rap music is a black-dominated category because the genre was invented by black people, not because the category was invented by the grammys so that black people could get some token awards without threatening the real proper awards for serious stuff like bluegrass.

Bad example this year because Eminem got best rap album, but to be fair he is pretty good.

so i KW do his new ditty All Day on the Brits and thought id give it a play now. ... it is interesting if a bit flawed. anyhow my question is, where the fuck is Paul McCartney on this track? Was he out getting Kanye his damn croissants and missed his recording spot?

kanye would seem to be the perfect choice for glasto. overrated, cunty and full of shit.
Actually you're right he does have parallels with Glas - hastily dismissed by a bunch of people who haven't been there / listened in ages, but go off of a few lame things they saw / heard about on tv

my confindence + your low self esteem -= my arrogance? so its our fault for having low self esteem that he seems arrogant? riiiiigghhttt....

I just talked to Jesus
He said, "What up, Yeezus?"

I said, "Shit I'm chillin'
Tryna stack these millions"

I know he the most high
But I am a close high

Mi casa, su casa
That's our cosa nostra
I am a god
I am a god
I am a god

I don't think he's arrogant. He's just a jackass full of hot air and poor impulse control :D

i think not checking your impulses is a sign of arrogance - its all about feeling you have the right to act a certain way - though I think a key part of arrogance is looking down on other people. Other than Beck i dont know if he does that much :D

I've just seen this thread was started in 2008  I thought he'd only been around since last year. I still don't know anything about him apart from his name and that's he's headlining saturday night at glasto.

lucky you! i could do with never hearing, seeing, being told bout him ever again the giant prat, guess i'm not being nice to myself posting on this thread, but.........

He wrote a book?
'Sometimes people write novels and they just be so wordy and so self-absorbed. I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book's autograph. I am a proud non-reader of books.'
:hmm:

I mean really, what the fuck is this supposed to be:

Artistry? Nah mate, that's garbage is what that is.

Leave her alone. JUST LEAVE HER ALONE.

On the subject of Kanyé, I think it's pretty likely that he'll get a couple of thousand bottles of piss thrown at him. Regardless of whether or not his music is good, it's what his ego deserves.

On the basis that Glasto has to have some "Comedy famous pop option to froth up the haterz and get the contrarians felling all superior", in which regard they've really knocked it out of the park. It's almost as if all his dickheadery in the last few years has been to cement his place as the Pyramid Saturday headliner.

"My greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live."

And nor will anyone else. They might get to watch him stand there while auto-tune performs live, but that's about it.

Michael Jackson's gigs are more live than Kanye's, and Michael Jackson is dead.

i think talking about Kanye is the modern day equivalent of whittling...or sewing...except you dont have anything left to show for it at the end.

okay bad analogy

I'm running programs that prepare books for a digital press as I'm posting on Urban. :)

TBH, I'm not that familiar with his music. My main reason for knowing who he is, is his penchant for running on stage at award shows and telling the winner they don't deserve the award. Not exactly something that makes me want to go out and buy his music. He needs to develop a different marketing strategy, if that's what he's doing.

Kanye gives a very funny diary entry in the current issue of Private Eye to Craig Brown about blowing his nose. The new issue's almost out, so hurry if you want to read it.
