You di somehow he went from some subline(overrated) footballer to the paster of interlect abnd the english word.

he was that rare thing: a top 5 in the world footballer, supremely talented who had a brain and wasn't afraid to use it. was he a booker prize winner or celebrated by L'Academie Francaise? No. But it was part of his idiosyncratic charm that that he could posture (a la Jose M?), think, and talk.

Not to mention skin you twice, step over your tackle, shrug, chip, score

dam it's not right agreeing with you before the match.

can we find something to fight about please>?

are you taking the piss ?
No. Shearer, dull as he may be, was a goalscorer with few peers, with an all-round game that I've seen few centre forwards match.

As for being an idiot, I was assessing players across their entire career, hence the inclusion of Scholes, Giggs (a better flare player than Cantona for my money), Sheringham and Desailly. I should have also included Deschamps in there. I never understand this deification of Cantona. That Manchester United team was built around a rock solid keeper and defence of Schmeichel, Parker, Bruce, Pallister and Irwin, and a superb blend of flair and steel in the midfield of Kanchelskis, Giggs, Keane and Ince. There's no way that Cantona stands out for me from that lot.

But he wore his collar up, kung fu kicked supporters, shagged his team-mate's wife, was a law unto himself, detested authority, had ideas above his station in terms of his intellect, was very sulky and went missing in games quite often when he wasn't in the mood (but this gets forgotten) and had a bit of a big nose.

Never mind Cantona. To suggest, as the writer of the article does, that Peter Schmeichel is 'arguably the finest goalkeeper ever' is taking the fucking piss :D

and that's why he's fucking loved!

He was good, but of his era Seaman was comparable and Chilavert better than both. Then we remember Shilton, Clemence, Banks and Jennings just from these isles, and Yashin and Zoff beyond.

Seaman comparable my fucking arse!

Seaman was a key extra component of the fabled Arsenal back four at the turn of the 90s, and performed with great aplomb for England. I don't deny Schmeichel was good, and probably better, but lets not place him on a pedestal above all his peers because he doesn't warrant that. He certainly couldn't take free kicks like your man Jose Luis Chilavert.
