No one is suggesting that we should ban all vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. But seeing as climate change is a reality and that CO2 emmisions from cars bear much of the blame for it, we must be sensible about its use.

And anyone who buys and uses a 12mpg, very large and overall more dangerous vehicle as an everyday city car is being a reckless selfish wanker IMO.

That's why it's wrong to drive an inefficient vehicle or use an inefficient fridge etc if there are more efficient ones available... especially when it comes to SUVs which are often more expensive than the more efficient car and more dangerous to others too.

Where have I said I have any issues with the eco side of things?

word, I work for a company that build/repairs electrostatic precipitators, coal fired power stations use 'em along with cement works etc, they take the shite out of the smoke before it gets to the chimney.

I was working on a power station in scotland last year and we patched half the gaping holes ( the budget wasn't allocated to do it all ), leaving gaping holes in the ductwork leading up to the units, blasting out untreated coal fumes into the atmosphere .

Scottish power made obscene profits this year.

just out of interest possibly the most hated of the "4x4"s the BMW x5 (3.0 D) delivers about 30 mpg

My guess is that if there are, say 10,000 4x4s in Chelsea, about 9,500 of them have never even been off road once.

Go pass any given school at the back of Sloane Square at 3:30 pm and you realise the scale of the issue, and the immense absurdity and selfishness of using such machines to pick up your kids from school, or for any other city chores for that matter.
