just had a speeding fine/points overturned after (nearly) 7 years!

You can't find your licence duh. Ok you still get a new fangled one but you get to keep your old one.

Or just don't bother getting it removed.

If I go for my bike licence my paper one will get lost on the way back from the test centre.

good idea!

and I hadn't even appealed, paid the £60 got the 3 points after being clocked at 43 coming off a dual carriageway in Dorset, on the A35, in Jan 2003.

nearly 7 years pass, and I get a letter today, inviting me to request a refund of the fine, and the removal of the points (they go after 3 years anyway don't they?) as a court judgement had declared that the traffic regulation order for that stretch of road was defective, someone clearly found a loophole and they've had to write to everyone.

so, £60 back, and my good name restored  (if you ignore the other 3 points and the speed awareness course :o)
Did that three points result in your insurance premiums going up...?

I have to send my licence in, to get the endorsement removed, which is nice, but it's a paper licence and they won't re-issue it , I'll have to get one of those new fangled cards instead :(

Well that's £20 out of yer £60 gone right there. And you need to replace it every 10 years, so in a mere 30 years they'll have clawed all of your money back.

They saw you coming, mate.

are you going to write a poem about it?

Man, they came and slapped me down
3 points, a fine, some jumped up clown
But then they realised their follies
What a bunch of fucking wallies.

Yey! Nice one Marty... although I dont think insurance is upped because of speeding points ?

Most insurers won't up it for 3 points, but many are starting to get a bit sniffy at 6 (you do still have to notify them when you get the 3 points, though).

I was just thinking that there should be interest payable on the £60, and one would have thought that some was due on the points - you should actually be slightly in credit, points-wise, now :)

It is a bit off that these things can happen - they've just discovered that there were 300 drivers in North Wales who got done when they shouldn't, and there was a legendary case a few years ago when they put a camera on the M4, set it at 50, and nicked hundreds of people - but there's never any comeback: they can wallop you with a fine and come back years later, and say "oh, sorry, whoops", and make as if nothing had ever happened. Meanwhile, you've gone through the heartache that goes with the whole business (and of course conscientious drivers who give a damn get hit harder with this), not to mention any insurance implications, etc.

Yes but then you have to 'renew' it every ten years and this is NOT free of charge. Don't do it marty!!

really? the only reason I still have a paper licence is that I've lived in the same place since 1997, I will eventually move, how much to they cost to renew?

I dunno, I've still got my paper one and have no intention of moving :D

Hubby says it's £20 judging from forums he's on. Don't think it affects you but if you have motorcycle entitlement(or more than one entitlement) it's worth having a photocopy of your licence signed by a lawyer before you send it to DVLA coz a large number of bikers have had to do their test again!! Including police officers and an advocate!!
Also check all your entitlements are correct as soon as you get it back, they don't keep records longer than 28 days apparently.
