Sunray
Its sunny somewhere.
They've quoted £125
Oh dear.
Or could just buy a big screen and use it as a desktop? 19" for less that a hundred quid these days?
House insurance claim excess has to be min 100 quid so no point in claiming on that.

I did. I bought it with a BarclaycardDaRealSpoon: broken screens don't come under standard user warranties, although she may be able to claim something if she bought it with a credit card...

Tsk! You nutty iFanboys and your Mac-lovin' ways! Keraazzy!
The reason I suggested a secondhand IBM is that they are considerably cheaper than a MacBook and every bit as tough (if not tougher). They also have the advantage of coming in a user-serviceable case (complete with guides on how to take them apart), making it easy to replace individual components yourself.
I was thinking that if madzone wants to be reduce the likelihood of it happening again, a tougher laptop might be a good call, and you keep your insurance no-claims premium intact.Probably a bit cheaper to claim on the insurance, though.
Sounds very fragile to me - I pick my laptop up by the screen all the time and it doesn't do it any harm (old IBM). Anyway, just take it to the shop and jump up and down until they give you a new one - five weeks is far too early!
