As to how to cheat - I"m not sure. But it is possible...

I've just had a 'Peal Jam gate'. Downloaded a 900 meg pearl jam concert for the only reason that it had just a few seeds and tons of leechers. Yet got almost no uploads

I have been downloading a few things now. And generally I just download it, wait for my ratio to go back above 1 (figuring I have given back more than I put in) then cancel that torrent.
Is that not good form?

I think the easiest way to cheat would be to keep using your invites to open new accounts and maxing out your 20-odd gig allowance before getting the new accounts banned, boosting your upload amount by 20 gig per invite.
Otherwise I'd guess you could forge packets to the tracker saying you'd uploaded stuff, without actually having done so, but I've not really poked around the bittorrent protocol so wouldn't have a clue how to go about that

ratio only follows you if you're using a members-only service. Your ratio is tracked seperately for each service you're subscribed to. On public torrents I do what you do. Wait till I've given back more than I took (usually 1.2-1.7 ish), then stop the transfer.Idaho said:

But they'd soon pick up the former by IP checks. The only way to do it would be if you were in charge of a computer room... At one point I did consider using an office computer at school to download uknova torrents I was seeding, but never got round to it.
I think it's the latter thing that cheaters do. Much simpler, if you know how, I guess.

That's what got me kicked off last time I had an Oink account - that bloody Rosetta Stone - I got the whole down but couldn't get it seeded. Anyone want to learn Vietnamese?
btw dub - could you finish seeding Dubbing you crazy - it hasn't completed once yet.
