Join the ANTI-BREADMACHINE UNION!

Some of us have jobs.

Having a machine that makes the dough, bakes it and then turns itself off whilst i'm at work is just pure luxury. Bread Machines rock!

I'll give it up only if one of you promises to pop around my house every day to turn out my loaf and switch the oven off. If not then shut it. :p

handmade is the only way

you machine heads are as square as your bread

lets see you make a nice plait in your breadmaker

whhy bake by hand when a machine will do it? everyone can bake bread, it's not rocket science is it! *

No but not many people do it anymore. I don't know anyone apart from me that can make a cake without looking up a recipe and making a day of it.

I've just got some coming out the oven in 5 mins time

And there's a artisan bakery on the bottom floor of our appt. building :cool:

E2A: here you go - nom,nom,nom

I might experiment with the dough cycle on mine, just to see, but in practice I'm much too lazy and I really love my heavy bread.

look, no-ones trying to force you to join

it was a joke, people need to stop gettin all defensive about their bread machines man!!!

This thread has inspired me to consider buying a bread maker

I reckon if you mentioned it to family and friends, someone would have an unused one in the cupboard.

I don't get it myself - way better invention than sliced bread... though I've yet to make bread suitable for sandwiches ..

How about just going to bakery?

Nearest bakery at least 3 miles away, kitchen/breadmaker 4/5 steps away :)
Cost of loaf from bakery?? About £1, cost of bread from breadmaker less than £1.
And like gg says you can put seeds and stuff in it yourself.

i can think of much better things than a breadmaker to spend upwards of a hundred quid on. and it doesn't take hours out of your day to make it by hand, you can go and do other stuff while it's rising. really for a simple loaf the part you actually have to do stuff for takes about half an hour.

We have a breadmaker and my old man uses it sometimes. Most times he makes bread by hand, or buys some from a bakery. It's all bread at the end of the day and I gave up eating it in February so I'm not fussed about where ours comes from.

Herbsman is right, and I'm joining... Bread machines you end up with some fucking hole in the middle, they're shit at crusts, the loaves look the same, you're restricted in the types of bread you can make and the low temperature always seems to mean the loaves aren't quite right. Fuck bread machines.

They cost £20 upwards.

How do those of us working 9 to 5 fit breadmaking into our days ?
(especially those of use without a spare square foot of worktop ?

I set my machine so it's finished just before I set off for work on my pushbike so I can eat hot bread at my desk at 9.

I just made my first loaf today!! By hand.......
I am going to try half white, half brown next week!

(I can't afford a fancy shmancy bread maker anyway)

Anyone who has the time to bake their own bread by hand every day either needs a job, a hobby or a new lover.

i was offered one for free and i still said no, it's just another gadget that's going to break/needs to be put in a cupboard. they're not exactly small. i work 9 to 5 and i manage fine!

whhy bake by hand when a machine will do it? everyone can bake bread, it's not rocket science is it! but I can have fresh bread waiting for me the second I get in from the pub, or when I get up

*holds breadmachine tight*

Yeah.

I nearly bought a bread machine today. I will do my best to buy one tomorrow.
