Lampard was better than Gerrard for england, but at club level gerrard is in another league. I think as one of the earlier poster said if Gerrard was given the armband he might turn in the sort of performance he does for Liverpool.

yes but by giving him the armband would mean a guaranteed starting place and maybe Mclaren has other ideas with two genuine wide players, Hargreaves and either Lampard or Gerrard making up the midfield

a) Terry can see the whole game in front of him, which is why i like dfenders as captains, and one of the many reasons why one T Adams esq. was such an outstanding captain.
2) he oozes leadership, commitment and presence. Those players will feel good following him
I also thought england's defence was the best thing aboput their otherwise awful W/c campaign
