John Martyn - solid air

Thinking about it, for me he probably single-handedly justified the existence of Whistle Test ...

"Big Muff ... get away with your terrible stuff ..." I would have discovered him around the same time as King Tubby ...

oops missed that was physical disks, mind, I'd forgotten anyone buys or uses them any more.

I still get a tingle every time I hear his music, and picture the young man on the stage with a smouldering joint wedged in between the strings at the head of his guitar. Saw him loads during the 70s, less frequently after that.

I chucked solid air on last weekend whilst I was doing some waste of time reading for a job I didn't get. The positive upshot from it all was I remembered how fucking good John Martyn was/still is

I loved this tour

He wrote Solid Air in memory of a friend of his, Nick Drake, both of whom were on the same label, Island, who never got the acceptance and popularity that he had - know its a JM thread but cant resist showing why Johnny boy thought him so good

Loved them then, love them now
