A musical of his life just opened in NY:

Almost Heaven: The Songs of John Denver, a new musical featuring the music of famed musician John Denver, celebrated its opening night at Off-Broadway’s Promenade Theatre on Nov. 9.

The musical, which is being directed by Randal Myler (of It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues fame), takes some of Denver’s more well-known songs (such as “Rocky Mountain High” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane”) and uses them to weave a “narrative that reflects upon the country during the years in which he wrote them,” according to production notes.

That article about the plane's design flaws was really interesting- but I thought the web design parallel was a bit of a stretch.

well I s'pose the Lovin' Spoonful were ok in a kind of blissed out california hippy type way but he was just to sacharrine in his solo incarnation

i'm confused by this. wasn't it john sebastian in the lovin' spoonful? don't know much about their history, but didn't realise that john denver was in them.

john denver reminds me of my childhood, so i have a soft spot for him. although i heard "sunshine on my shoulders" a while back and it was a little too sappy, even for me.

he's alright. toots probably hand him a dash of cool by association.

Charlie Rich had the right idea when as mc at Country Music Awards, he set fire to the paper announcing Denver had got an award!
He is somewhat redeemed by providing "Country Roads" when it's interpreted magnificently by Ted Hawkins!
