Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones

I like Tarver in the Fight Night games, but not as an actual boxer. Maybe a rematch with B-Hop just so as the White Boy can do a better job on him.

Fuck 'em all.

16 pages for a boxing thread - yay!

I'd love to see a couple of more big calzaghe fights before he's done.

And fair play to setanta for their no pay per view.

Setanta are the leaders on boxing imo.

Sky <shudders> Amir Kan't on PPV - are you having a laff? ffs.

ITV are getting it slightly together - Hennessy have done a deal with them.

BBC - wtf. Olympics and that's about it! Bottom of the class!

Fight Network - correct channel? - had Darren Barker on a while ago.

Eurosport have a few half decent fights on too.

Channel Manchester has boxing shows too.

Can't see Hopkins re-match.

It would be great to see Calzaghe destroy him convincingly on home soil.
Hopkins wont come here, no way, Dawson would cos he's younger and hungrier.

I reckon even if Joe did fight Hopkins again, and done a number(s) ;) on him there'd still be excuses about how the Pavlik result was a freak result and B-Hop is just an old man.

Those without a chip appreciate what Joe has achieved, he has nothing to prove.

Although, duuno if any of you post on Boxrec or Eastsideboxing? fucking hard work I tell thee... fucking hard work.

The Septics are always ridiculously harsh on British boxers. I remember one of their magazines which had a top 50 heavyweights and Lennox was in about 45. Really I'd place him about 5th in the all-time heavyweight spectrum.

And they used to refer to Hamed as 'Yemeni' not British, just to sort of take away from the fact that Britain had a talented fighter.

For me, Lewis in same position.

1. Ali
2. Louis
3. Marciano
4. Holmes
5. Lewis

Then I'd have Foreman, Frazier, Holyfield, Tyson and Johnson the next 5.

Holmes above Tyson?

are you rating who was the best in their peak?

or who had the greatest acheivements?

or both mixed together??

coz for me theres three different top 5's IYSWIM

Holmes before Tyson anyday mate. I was thinking of putting him in at 3. but Marciano's 0 puts him ahead.

I look at it all I 'spose. I agree about what's written about Holmes, in that he was one of the best technicians there ever was, had prob' the greatest jab in history.. he can jolt people with a jab, Tyson couldn't. They both had good speed & footwork etc.. but where Holmes leaves Tyson standing is heart. Tyson had half the heart Holmes did.

For me Tyson in 1986 through to late 1988 (before he sacked Rooney and got involved with Don King) would of beaten any heavyweight ever ( in my opinion of course)He was a fooking animal with amazing speed. His gaurd was tight he was hard to hit. soooooooooooo quick & aggresive ducking weaving KOing!

I don't disagree with you. I reckon tho', if in the era of Ali et al, he may have beaten Ali but you can bet he'd only have got 1 out of a trilogy, like Frazier for example.

Tyson was awesome, the top 10 all are/were and are all capable of beating each other. Look what Foreman did to Frazier, then a 'washed up' Ali beat Foreman.

That's why I love boxing debate...

No Floyd Patterson? He was the youngest man to win the heavyweight championship (at the time), and the first to regain the undisputed title (by beating the man he's lost it to, Johansson).

And what about Sonny Liston? Supposed to be one of the hardest hitters ever, and 54 wins to four losses (two of which were to Ali) isn't a bad record.

There's nobody out there who'd be a really great scalp for Calzaghe. What would beating Dawson mean, really? Or Hopkins, again (now he's even older). Beating them won't really bolster his reputation, so why risk losing the impressive 'and 0' status?

Why do we always want to get one more fight out of these guys, until it's one too far and they lose to someone they shouldn't, or, worse, get hurt?

Liston never had a heart, he had a great longggggg jab, not far behind Holmes and at 84" as long as Lewis, but he had no heart man, sours it for me.

And as for Paterson, knocked on his arse a dozen and a half times and KO'd in 5 fights, not really gonna stand up to some of the others really.

And I agree totally about Calzaghe, retire now.. as much as I'd like to see him fight again cos we'll miss him, he has nothing to prove.

fwiw I'm in no-way knocking any boxer, I'd never do that. Any man who gets into a ring to participate in probably the toughest discipline I take my hat off to.
