Jobs you thought were cool when you were young

I had the best job that any kid could have and I was paid silly amounts for what I did. Even today, twelve years on, I'd still do it for the same money.

rent boy?

I bet you've got an arsehole like a crisp packet.

I wanted to be a computer games tester when I was younger. Obviously it was the idea of getting played to play games which sounded appealing. Probably would to a lot of kids.

Pretty pointless job at the end of the day, though, and not very well paid either.

First I wanted to be an astronomer. Then it was a doctor, then a chemist, then a psychiatrist.

I'm a phd student in a very loosely related field, so not too off the mark.

I was one ambitious little lass. :o

my mum dug out of the cupboard a few weeks back a little crayon picture id drawn when i was about 6
scrawled on it were the barely legible words
i want to be a doctor
and me in a white coat

fuck
24 months left and i will be

Not many people can say that :) And have you got disillusioned yet?

I still wouldn't mind being a trucker, but the delights of book stamping, tutus and farting about in pointy shoes, and operating on animals no longer seem so desirable

I dunno why, but I thought that being a pharmacist would be good fun - what an exciting childhood I must have had :D

I'm not a pharmacist, but I am in charge of ordering pharmacy items and have control of a cupboard full of contraceptives.

I. Am. Living. The. Dream.

:D They used to be called chemists back in my day, I'd never heard of pharmacists til I was about 25

I wanted to be a vet, a ballet dancer,
Why are those two occupations so popular? Is it just amongst people of a 'certain age' or do kids today still want to be ballet dancers? Can't say I know one kid who's thought of it

I am sure there was a spike after Billy Elliot.

Really wanted to be stonemason, still do really but too old and too used to a good wage coming in to start again - might take it up as a hobby :)

At my first job interview, they asked me where I saw myself in ten years.

I said I wanted to be married with children :D

Ok, so it took me more than 10 years, but I got there.

At 15 when we chose our work experience placements, I chose a Funeral Directors. Didnt get the placement, but at least now I get to work as an embalmer.

My mate, who got the FD placement, has his own Funeral business now.

When I was much younger, I really wanted to be a steam engine driver but then they stopped running them (yes! I'm that old - I can just aboiut remember steam engines running on BR and they were well k3w1!) and then I wanted to be an astronaut and wrote to NASA.

They sent back an amazing pack full of glossy A4 space pics which I dearly wished I kept.

I worked as a paintball marshal for years. It was cool - its how I ended up playing for a team and coming second in the world amateur championships in 1994. I used to be one of the best - but only cos I was so small I couldn't be shot. I'll tell you a story about it one day :D

When I was 15 (1980) I did my school project on 'the Space Race' - I also wrote to NASA and got a bunch of photos........which I still have, they are in my project A4 file which is on a bookcase even as I type
