job centre

It was bad enough when you had to look for jobs on the boards that you were unlikely to get...NOW you gotta press a load of buttons which malfunction to lead you to jobs you won't get..

I had quite a pleasent time when I signed-on. This was City JCP, Commercial Road E1.

Did the phone thing on Monday. Went to the JC on Tuesday, got there early, got seen early. Checked over my info. Waited for 5 mins then saw another chap about the job search plan thing. He gave me print-outs of some likely gigs and on request also printed me out info about local agencies and told me where to find the nearest 3 Store to load up my dongle.

Sort of enjoyed it really.

Yes but did you get a job?....technically it should be the JobLess Centre or Purswells Project......or Ideological Hours .........Systemless Simms...........

it is where you go when you have not got a job.........work.

Eh?

The whole point of the system now is to demoralise and depress you so much that, by any means necessary, you don't use it. For some that means taking a job way beneath their skills, experience, financial needs etc. For others that means simply disengaging from the system altogether and living on their wits, off their meagre savings, or in the black economy.

Each and every outcome except paying a benefit cheque is of benefit to the state.
stop saying things like that and get involved in stuff again!

CALL 1-800-ANRCHY TODAY

srsly call me. At the very least you can play the xmas party for us ;)

Well I am yet to meet anyone that has actually got a job....or work from/via the Job Centre. Online...agencies....yes... but never the actual Job Centre.

btw i really like the jobcentre now with the machines and everything. It was a shit job, but i've got one every time i've gone this year fwiw.

Apparently dalston was really good for what i was looking for tho.

I was keeping a collection of the funniest print outs - like 'leather worker, must need at least 10 years experience working with suede and leather' - but i think my mum chucked them out. My fave was 'Commi Chef' - i was like thats for me lol :D

parrently its some genuine cookery title bleh :o Never got to cook them my Kollontai Kasserole.

ETA wow that wasn't in response to you cressi, but fuck me what timing! Yeah i got a few jobs in the jobcentre over the summer, actually stitch-ups by agencies, but jobs nonetheless.

slave work? I used get the job centre to send me ..... then suss out the agency...then contact them later...individually + get offered more. As an agnecy, temp you have little access to a union......cheap labour unfortunately I live in a high council tax band and the moment I tart work they are after me...£30 per week....and nasty threats from bailiffs before I begin.

I try to stay ahead and pay when I can.

to be honest, at least in construction which is wht i was doing, all you are doing IS just calling the agency; the jobcentre listing is largely irrelevant, all they are saying is they have work so call them. The JC is not linking you direct. I've gone from seeing the agencies and the JC as colluding to seeing the agencies are actually the new jobcentre: they run the show. You would be hard pressed to find a single non-agency job.

Also mate, you always have access to a union if you think its worth it; the problem is, what we're talking about now, is that it really seems like it is as a temp worker with zero specific skills. I mean the IWW would follow you from job to job and cost you sod all, but...well. And the other TU's kinda need you to have a particular trade/industry.

But remember you have workplace rights union or not, and if you need to stand up for them sites like this can help you.

I have tried .....even the word frightens them....I work with South Africans, Phillipines, ....I now work on + off.... the management train me....I am fortunate to work with lovely ladies. I did attend the council union meetings.....well I tried to say that the ladies were earning less than me despite being better trained and more experienced.

We have perks....left over food,...lots of happy faces. But they know I am a union activist. It takes time. I keep my foot in the door. We all supported the firemen.
