joanna newsome makes my brain go soft in all the right ways.

There are loads on gumtree - in fact there's someone offering a free ticket if you'll go with him! (I'm not sure if that hasn't been snapped up by now though).

And there are still tickets available on the RAH website too.

well that was fucking ace then :)

couple of songs I drifted, but generally breathtaking. Some of the new arrangements of old material were wonderful and the new songs are great.

You realise quite how varied she is - dips a toe in folk and world and recital and almost singer / songwriter stuff. She could go on and on. Looked genuinely blown away to be playing there too..

Where is the green smiley?

I quite liked a couple of tracks of Milk-Eyed Mender (thanks Bluestreak) but was struggling a bit with ys.

about 4 days ago, I suddenly and completely "got it"

Fantastic album and worth the work.

Glad you enjoyed her Dub.

The reworking of peach plum pear was ace, when Ive see her on the telly playinging it solo it lacked the energy the lowfi production gave it. The percussion really brought it to life, and was nice and understated throught the whole gig.

downloading Stormcock now, but the whole night was all about pumpkin on a table though :D

i loved the way she almost sent herself up talking to the Moor (sp?) Brothers - "and when are you playing there, Moor Brothers?"

the band were astonishing, especially the drummer..

Yes, but for me the highlight was when she did Sawdust and Diamonds unaccompanied - totally captivating. A great show all round. I liked it better than at the Barbican earlier this year because then she did all of Ys with the LSO (which was great but...) and then returned after an interval to play her other songs. Last night she mixed Ys up with older and newer material and it worked better, and she seemed a lot more relaxed as well without a full orchestra behind her back.

yeh, i think i'd wrongly concluded this was another orchestra show (the venue, i guess) and was actually pleased it wasn't - i think it may have swamped her a bit.
