Joanna Newsom - will I regret not going?

Beloved bought us tickets for us to see Joanna Newsom next Tuesday at the Sage Gateshead - and has just realised that he's in London on a training course.

I really like the album Ys (but I don't love it, yet) and I don't really fancy going on my own. Also I'm not sure how it will come across live? I could get a friend to come I'm sure, but I'd rather go with beloved or not at all I think, especially as it was a gift.

I can't get a refund, but we can swop for another event and we were thinking if going to see the silent version of Ben Hur (with orchestra) there in a couple of weeks so that's a possibility that would be something to really look forward to.

But, and I am really wavering on this, will I really regret not going?

Basically, if anyone's seen her perform live, is it worth going, even given the above (would do poll but can't work out how to do it, at self)

I went to see her on Monday night at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester with the Northern Syphonium as the backing Orchestra.

All I will say is that the music she played is possibly the most beautiful I've ever heard. From the moment she played her first song the whole audience was mesmerised. She played the whole Ys (pronounced ees) album with the Orchestra then after the interval she played solo harp with most of the milk eyed mender album.

She played Peach Plumb Pear last as a solo on the Harp and people were crying in the audience I swear on my mothers life, my girlfriend was one of them.

I can appreciate why people may feel she is an aquired taste but I would marry her. I think she is the most talented musician/song writer in an age.

YOU MUST GO!!!

Think tix for a London date go on sale tomorrow ... not sure where/when she's playing though ...

Where are the tix on sale?
Also worth pointing out that she's headlining the brilliant Green Man Festival this summer as well.

'She played Peach Plum Pear...'

Beautiful. I'd go just for that. :) She's obviously got a lot of fans. I thought I was the only person who'd ever heard of her.

Having to buy tickets for gigs months and months in advance seems to be becoming a more regular occurrence these days.

I guess it will sell out so best move fairly sharpish - but how am I supposed to know what plans I might have for September....

I'm in H11. You'll get the pleasure of looking at the back of my head for two hours :) .

Never been to the Albert Hall before, I reckoned the stalls were best choice.

yeh - the muppet boxes are fun but actually can lead to a cricked neck or something..

I downloaded Sawdust and Diamonds on the strength of this thread: she's incredible. Sometimes I think I'm falling out of love with music, then when something like this comes along I realise that I love music as much as ever, it's just that the overall standard is pretty mediocre at the moment.

I'll be downloading some Afghan Whigs on the strength of that thread too, a little later. Thank you, urbs. :)

do it :)

they're just ace... At first, they kinda seem like another Sub Pop band. But then the sense of dread and guilt and lust and sleaze seeps in, and then you realise just how damn funky they are :)
