  1. Idaho

    Idaho blah blah blah

I only know two songs - Love and Affection and Drop the Pilot. Both very commercial, but I like them both. Might spend some time listening to more. I am at peace with my easy listening side.

Why are you even asking this question? It's a non-question.

I like some of her music, but she is the only pop/rock musician where I was genuinely shocked that they were a Tory and I never quite got over that one.

    I like Joan Armatrading...

She is good, but I only really know the popular songs!

Brilliant - and she plays a mean Fender Strat!
  8. ska invita

ska invita back on the other side

Ms Invita is a fan - all about the performance (doesnt sound as good to me without seeing her sing it)

Just goes to show: even Tories can have something resembling human emotion.

She must be faking it. :(

Yeah: she's probably not a real Tory at all.
  12. The Boy

The Boy danny la rouge is probably wrong.

I don't see where the debate is. She's a conscious songwriter with a beautiful voice and the worst thing I have to say about her is why hasn't she done more in the last few years. This thread has reminded me of how influential she was in the 80s and how perfect many of her songs were. No debate, a most emphtic NOT CRAP.

used to be truly magical - but like vast majority of musicians that got started in the seventies - she had lost most of that magic by the time that she got to the eighties .. and was then rather crap.. today - i cannot believe how naff her her hair looks when it is finally fashionable for black people to no longer fuck about with themselves that way..

not crap at all. Neither is Kate Bush.

Did anyone else ever hear about the now thoroughly debunked rumour that she was Valery Singleton's lover? :-p

I certainly did - and believed it through the pre-Internet years / until Val did "This is your Life" and introduced her toy boy :)

There's a story in Val's book about when she met Joan coming out of the BBC and decided to play a joke, persuaded Joan to play along and acted as if they were ex lovers bumping into each other after years :D
