Jimmy Greaves RIP

From the Guardian:
Former England, Chelsea and Tottenham striker Jimmy Greaves is in intensive care after suffering a severe stroke on Sunday.

A statement from Greaves’ family confirmed that the 75-year-old had been taken ill, having recovered from a minor stroke in 2012. “His wife, Irene, and four children have asked for privacy during what is a worrying time for the family. They will issue a bulletin on his condition when it is appropriate.

“England’s greatest ever goal scorer was 75 on February 20, and has been working regularly on the personal appearances circuit in harness with his friend and agent Terry Baker. Jimmy had a minor stroke in 2012, but appeared to have made a full recovery. He was due to be inducted into the Tottenham Hotspur Hall of Fame on 13 May at a sell-out ceremony at White Hart Lane. This is all we wish to say at the present time.”

Really sad end.

His wife said:
He was so charismatic, so funny. Now he's a shell of the man he was. After his last stroke (he had a minor one in 2012 and the latest, severe, one five years ago) I didn't think he'd make it. And in a way I think it would have been better if he'd gone.

'This is no life for him. He doesn't want to be here. He says: 'Get me something so I can go.' And I tell him: 'You'll have us both in jail.' Sometimes I wish he could just slip away peacefully. I know that's what he wants.
Sorry it's from the Mail.

you can see how knackered he had been earlier this year.

Sad news , brilliant player but just before I was aware of the game (although he made a comeback in the late 70s with Barnet.

RIP.

Amazing player - stats likely never be beaten. 100% world class. Not bothered about the rest of it.
Yep, all of that. I was just looking at the stats and it's amazing that his England career ended when he was 27 and scoring in about 80% of his international appearances. The year after his last England cap he got 27 in 42 for Spurs.

Anyone with BT sport there’s a Greaves documentary which I’ve just discovered and about to watch on their App
