Can't see how it works except through the assumption that the audience hates gypsies just like he does, but they're afraid to say so. It's just horrible and he deserves everything he gets.

Saw a Guardian headline about a new law that would have made that joke illegal. I don't think that's the right approach. We don't need the law to protect us from racist jokes like that. But we should be free to pelt Jimmy Carr with tomatoes wherever he goes.
