Jian Ghomeshi

I don't know if you Googled that phrase but that's what Ghomeshi apparently said before turning the teddy to face a wall and then abusing his victims. Grim.
Didn't google the phrase. Regardless of the presence of the large soft toy, it's grim. I wonder if there was a camera or recording equipment in it?

Either way, Ghomeshi seems to have been aware (at some level) that what he did nonconsensually was something to keep hidden.

That is my kink.

It's a bit of a giveaway innit.

Sounds to me like, having found some women who were into BDSM, he assumed that all women were. And/or due to his celebrity and arrogance didn't really care whether they were or not. Certainly didn't bother asking.

But what really gets me is that he made a career out of pretending to be a New Man.

Nauseating Ghomeshi quote from the Klein article: "The reason people like what we do is that there are so few young people doing political satire. When we played Voice of Women we were symbols of young progressive males. That gives them hope for the future."

Another dead giveaway is hearing a story, assuming its about you because you know you've done bad wrongs and so showing your employers your home made consensual bdsm sex tapes in order to stave of infamy, calumny and possible court time. What planet...

Innit. And then being surprised when your employer takes one look at your tapes and chucks you under the bus.

Well, at least it's one you don't indulge on here.

That depends on the workplace ethos (assuming that employees weren't expected to be 100% squeaky clean by conservative christian standards). If he thought the stuff on the tapes was entirely consensual and if he was convinced that he'd done nothing wrong to those other women (the ones groped etc without consent), he might have reasonably expected to be safe enough.

Those are two ridiculously large "if"s though. Arrogant, stupid, and self-deluded.

Not really, not when you read the women's accounts. It was much more than groping. And apart from the nine women who actually allege assault, several other women who went on dates with him, but didn't have sex with him, have chimed in to say that he acted weird and aggressive to them as well.

And all the time he was coming up with stuff like this:

Ghomeshi's radio program on the CBC, called 'Q', was arguably the best thing they had. Interesting topical interviews, a great mix of music.

When the scandal broke, everyone thought that it would be the end of Q, and maybe the end of the CBC.

But they got a new guy in - Tom Power - and he's pretty good. The show will be fine.

Further proof that no one is irreplaceable.

People are amazing when it comes to rationalising the very definitely pisspoor choices they've made. He's merely outstanding in thinking that he'd get away with it, given his high profile.

The feeling in Canada toward Ghomeshi can be compared to that in the US toward OJ Simpson: a man goes from being a beloved household name, to a reviled monster. One difference is that it took a murder trial, then a successful civil lawsuit for murder, to complete the public transformation of OJ. The Ghomeshi transformation process took about two weeks, if that long.

Do you reckon Ghomeshi will be brought to trial over this?

I'd have thought anything could only be improved by his absence.

Because unlike OJ, his fame rested on no substantial achievement but was the merest celebrity ephemera. He was only ever an image, and so can easily be replaced by another image.

Prior to the breaking of the scandal, I don't believe I'd ever seen a photo of the man, nor heard him in any context outside of his media work. He might have done a news show or something in Vancouver, years ago; hard to recall.

Q was very good and hugely popular. Ghomeshi was a part of that; how large or small his contribution is difficult to say.
