Jesus Fuck! Another fucking Video Format :(

i don't quite understand how splitting the files into rar helps the downloading unless your doing it off a site and have no download manager that supprts resume

also how on earth does many small files work better in bittorrent? i mean internally in bittorent it breaks up the download into pieces so it shouldn't matter if it's lots of small files or one big one unless it is broken up into many small torrents but then your more lightly to have trouble seeding all of them

(and i wouldn't like to think how much added strain that puts on the xboxes rather small processor/ram)

If you're doing a download off usenet then you thank every moment that you're getting split downloads - you can lose your connection (and so your whole download) in a moment's notice sometimes. Also there's this wonderful thing called "PAR" which sort of works like a RAID mirror system where, if you've got 9/10 files and the PARs, you can actually recreate the missing file from what you've got.

When you download using usenet you can have more than one thread, so if i'm downloading a 1Gb movie thats in one file i can only use one thread and my thread might not be able to use all my bandwidth,so if the movie is broken into many rar files i can use many threads and use all my bandwidth, I normally use about 10 threads and download at 10mb

I can't find the link to the paper that goes into how raring helps speed up torrent downloads

(With very little OS to run and with all xboxs using the same hardware the spec do alot more than you would think,After all imagine trying to run halo 2 on a PC with the same specs as an xbox

Also: WinRAR is great. In Windows it integrates perfectly with your OS so all you have to do is right click on the archive and choose either "Extract here" or "Extract into..." to put your stuff either in the local folder or elsewhere respectively - all without having to open the GUI.

It's beautiful :)

Anyone actually opening .rar files is living in 1999 :D

might explain it - i simply don't use usenet

it's not good on the whole resuming from where you left off thing eh?

edit: you mean it intergrates into the system just like winzip win ace and just about all zip programs?

I don't think there is anyone who could claim that usenet was anything but the best filesharing system

I have not seen the winrar GUI in about 2 years

Exactly! And it's better compression, so don't complain about the nag screens :)

yeah if you can't or don't want to pay for usenet , But 10mb all the time every file can not be beat

seeing as i can download off IRC at my full bandwith (and bittorrent for stuff that can run in the background) i think i'll stick to that.

i find free is genrally really good... when it's free and really good it think it is probably the best

Is it just me that hates WinRAR by the way? I installed it a while back but it tried to take over my fucking Explorer, I tried to uninstall it and the uninstaller wouldn't work properly, it took several tries.

I just file WinRAR stuff in the "would download if in a proper format" category now.

Just use
