What should we do with Jerusalem?

Nah.. he was a nutter who really believed that Jesus came here, he wanted to do away with the factories and see his beloved albion fair turned into a place fit for a lamb of bod. His real interntions with it are all hotly debated stuff, so I expect nationalist verses socialist verses xtian flamewar to pop along here any minute.

i was always led to believe that the original poem actually had some satirical purpose, that Blake was laughing at the 'god is an englishman' mentality, and that having hordes of god botherers belting it out every Sunday morning was a fantastic irony. am i wrong?

Probably not, but I think the satire and subtle self-deprecation make it even more suitable, more 'English'. Anyway, it's a rousing tune and the lyrics are cryptic enough to baffle foreigners, so what more could we ask?

well, yeh, i've read anarchist readings of his worldview which seemed fairly convincing, and i know the latter parts are an attack on the industrialisation of albion etc, but i'm sure i read that he didn't believe Christ came here and was gently mocking it.. might do a google..

is it just me or have they changed this recently? i was a bit baffled over the weekend when i had the radio on and the archers came on and the theme tune seemed to have been 'worzelled' - hyped up with some kind of comedy organ and at a faster pace
Aaaaargh- I just heard it
Bollocks to this I'm off back to bed for a good cry :(

land of hope and glory or i vow to thee my country would make far better national anthems. jerusalem is ok but tbh it's overdone imo (but perhaps that's cos we sang it at school at least once a week for 14 years of my life   so i'd happily not sing it ever again!)

edit: i'd have it at my wedding cos it's family tradition, but i don't think Photo would want it :D (unless he could have the soldier's song or similar, too ...)

Both I vow to me my country and Jerusalem were sung at my wedding, then it was back to the reception to dance to ska and get pissed on guiness and champers.

The theme tune is always different for the Sunday omnibus. Are you sure it wasn't that?
