I wouldn't bother replying to this latest bewildered bellow of rage from our resident faux American, except that the issue of the Cuban exiles' distribution in the state is actually quite pertinant to Jeb Bush's career. He is kept in power by an alliance between two of Florida's three main cultures: the Deep South conservatives of the panhandle, and the Cubans (who, in reality as opposed to Nino's fantasy-Florida) are heavily concentrated in Miami and Dade county. The Iraq war has had the effect of driving a wedge between these two groups, with North Florida full of military families (Pensacola in particular), and therefore rather gung-ho on Iraq, and Miami seeing the middle east as an unwelcome distraction from the pressing task of securing their planned recapture of power and wealth in post-Castro Cuba. I think that as a result the Cubans could probably be dislodged from the Republican bandwaggon, in which case Florida will cease to be Bush country rather quickly, and Jeb's career will be over. The impact of such a Cuban defection would be so pronounced precisely because they are heavily concentrated in South Florida, rather than being "all over the state" as Nino falsely and foolishly asserts.

Is this what you are saying because I want to be clear in this. You are saying ALL without exception - is this correct?

There is talk of it, though phil will probably tell you that isn't the case and Ted Kennedy is the Democrat's choice.

The process begins in 2007. But many have talked about wanting to run for president including Illinois governor Evan Bayh and Senator John Edwards. Hillary is talked about but she denies that she has any intention of running.

I almost forgot: there's Wesley Clark too.

I very much doubt that you are able to tell a Cuban from a Mexican or a Puerto Rican, so most probably they were just having you on. In any case, your earlier claim that Cubans are "all over the state" is simply rubbish, as anyone who had been there would know.

She should know, as she's travelled widely through South and Central America.

Oh, there's plenty of doubt alright. Hillary would in some ways be a brave choice for the Democrats, because she is such a hate-figure for the US right. On the other hand, the Hillary-haters wouldn't vote for any Democrat, so they may decide they've nothing to lose. My own money is on Hillary vs. Condi. Wouldn't this be the first time in the world that a general election has been contested, essentially, between two women?
