JD Vance's time is up

No there isn't, you're making shit up. That Snopes article is a news item that simply repeats the story. Given the slew of other reports of Vance's visit being protested by locals, on what basis exactly are you making this claim?

I don't see many stories out there about the alleged incident which quote it as fact......and I note that the BBC haven't reported as it presumably can't be second sourced.

Perhaps you have a source you can share which is directly attributable to the owners, managers or staff?

If I see anything I'll be sure to share it. In the meantime we can be sure that Vance is a fucking gimp whose overbearing presence is attracting objections.

It's not the principles that are the issue.

It's childish how they were applied. If they were willing to risk their jobs why did they not take the opportunity to question Vance's politics to his face?

And the answer to your second question - first, it depends on my judgement of if they will pay and care for the property....second, it would be depend on the nature of the lies they'd told.
Making an upfront refusal to the restaurants bosses is a (relatively) low risk for the staff rather than a public attack on such a high profile person (even if he is a despicable dipstick). I agree that if I was about to change career and it wouldn't affect my future employment or my colleagues (covers most students on summer break) I would love to have made a very public challenge to the numpty But thankfully wiser heads prevailed. Personally I think the restaurant will benefit from this. Very short term - their profile has been raised. Medium term, the staff feel respected and it provides an extra bond. Longer term, there will be public reviews that help highlight an ethos in the restaurant.

I look back at the issues raised by a mistake at Hawksmoor in (IIRC) Manchester when the Sommelier fetched the wrong bottle that was 10 times more expensive than expected. The management wrote it off as 'Chin-up, we all make mistakes' and there was no further issue.

Ultimately, respecting your staff comes way ahead of everything, sometimes even ahead of the customer. The staff are the ones that give any restaurant the reputation it deserves, either cooking, cleaning, service or management.

At the seeming rate of dementia donny's deterioration, I badly suspect that Vance.... is.... going to wind up as a caretaker prez for the last few months of term.

Elationary horror......!!

That's what they said last time round. I don't see Trump being any more dim than he's always been tbh.

Totally agree on the dimness old bean but I think he certainly seems more rambling and absent-minded, won't be long before we see him peeing into his desk drawers or waste bins. Which will be a shame as I think Vance is a nasty, nasty piece of shit.

I would agree Vance is a nasty piece of shit but I think he would be an "improvement" over the orange one. There would hopefully be an end to the tariffs on/tariffs off nonsense and to such idiocies as making Canada the 51st state or invading Greenland. I think Vance would be a disaster for the Americans especially the poor ones but much of the rest of the world might breath a sigh of relief.
I can't help but wonder if he took the job in the hope that Trump might shuffle off this mortal coil midterm and give him a route to the Presidency he would not otherwise have.

Peter Thiel is very much hoping so I would imagine and consequently Vance would be much worse all round.

Oh totally took the job as a stepping stone. At least with the orange manbaby some of his actions are public, Vance will be watching Fart to see what he can get away with and how, what will come under scrutiny and what he can set up under the radar.

He is incredibly ambitious and ruthless, and I wonder if he's capable of using Thiel just as he's used Trump as a stepping stone. Does anyone know how genuinely wedded he is to Project 2025, or does he just want power, and to stay in power? Given the presidential immunity that Trump has secured, Vance would be more powerful and wily president - and he only has to reverse one or two of Trump's more unpopular policies to make himself more popular than he currently is (which isn't very). Even if he jettisons Thiel (and he's probably already worked out how to do that with impunity) he could be in power for quite some time.

Just idle uninformed speculation of course. It would be reassuring if someone could correct me.

I only wish I could correct you old bean. I read part of his autobiography (years ago, didn't know who he was then) and he's mad at all women for not being breast fed enough as a baby.

Slightly OT and in bad taste:

I was struck by the way Usha Vance seemed to be the only person paying respectful attention to Bishop Budde's sermon after Trump's inauguration. And then I came across this rather tacky* montage of alleged fracture lines in her relationship with JD:

In summary:
1. They spent the UK vacation apart and he didn't post about the family at all.
(But she might have embargoed family posts.)
2. She put her high-flying legal career on hold for him.
(Not unheard of.)
3. She was a registered Democrat until she married him. Friends say she is still liberal at heart. (But she was clerking for Brett Kavanaugh.)
4. He had a difficult childhood and doesn't believe in therapy. She is the one who keeps him in check and he even admitted lashing out to her on one occasion. (what does that even mean? He calls her his 'spirit guide'.)
5. He makes hurtful comments about immigrants causing housing shortages and hosital overcrowding. He once defended a DOGE employee who wrote 'Normalize Indian hate.' Usha V's parents are Indian.
6. They have different religions. (That often works.)

*'Tacky' because it's so speculative and one-sided. AFAIK she has not commented publicly on anything - apart from this anodyne interview with The Free Press. https://archive.ph/QcCsc
Mind you, it's a mystery how anyone could fall for JD in the first place, let alone anyone with a brain and a conscience. And by all accounts she's pretty bright.

She's been married to him for 11 years already, which kinds of suggests that she has a very high tolerance for JD Vance and his stupid ideas

There was some footage recently of them rowing in a restaurant in public, where he was shouting at her and the staff. Her parents are not his greatest fans either. I just don't understand how someone with intelligence and a supposed liberal outlook, could marry someone like him. Run now Usha, get out. She must be very willing to compromise her ideals though to put up with him. I know I could never be with someone with such vile views, no matter how it would bring me wealth and power.

Yeah, it's more shocking that a self-described (right-wing) libertarian would actually say something like that instead of tongue-punching the GOP's collective arseholes as usual.
