JD Vance's time is up

It's the kids I feel sorry for - not because of protesters targeting their holidays, but because JD Vance is their dad

Oh agree, a terrible burden, but responsible parents wouldn't put their children in the firing line in the first place so maybe they should just leave the kids at home in the care of someone who actually cares about them and just come on their own to face the likely welcome they'll receive.

Then people can target them with a clear conscience knowing that no children are suffering as a result.

With the added benefit that the Vances wouldn't be able to whine and moan about their poor kids' holiday being ruined.

I've not really used the selfie camera either - why does it do that? (sorry if daft question)

eta: so it acts like a mirror? but that doesn't really answer my question

Your phone has a camera on the back that you take pictures with, that gives you a true picture. The screen side has the selfie camera, so you can take a picture of yourself whilst looking at the screen to make sure you're looking gorgeous, but that acts as a mirror, as Vance has found out.

I like the way once he turns it upside down his mate thinks that taking the posters off the wall and somehow turning them around might help.

I thought this was interesting from Heather Cox Richardson's latest post. Sounds like an ouster cabal, under the guise of Epstein concern, and the boss got wind of it. Mind you, so much is being viewed through the lens of 'Vance as Project 2025 nominee' that maybe it was simply to discuss handling the Epstein optics. Or maybe the denial is right, that it was never even planned, just a figment of fervid imagination:

Meanwhile, outlets reported today that top administration officials, including Vance, Blanche, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel, were scheduled to meet at the vice president’s residence Wednesday to coordinate the administration’s Epstein strategy. Notably, they appear to be meeting without President Trump.
The family of Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, issued a statement saying: “We understand that Vice President J.D. Vance will hold a strategy session this evening at his residence with administration officials. Missing from this group is, of course, any survivor of the vicious crimes of convicted perjurer and sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. Their voices must be heard, above all. We also call upon the House subcommittee to invite survivors to testify.”
After news of the meeting leaked, a source told Nandita Bose of Reuters that the meeting had been canceled.

emptywheel puts in the time

How conveniently the story about Vance’s canoe trip popped up just about the time the Epstein conspiracy meeting was making too much trouble for Trump and his conspirators, just about the time Team Trump was desperate enough to think about compromising one of their Epstein skeptics to change the direction of media and public attention.

I'm also of the opinion Vance wants the job intensely but wouldn't have a chance at presidency at this point in his career otherwise (IMO), and this also times well given trump's increasing cognitive issues, given one of Biden's faults in the eyes of the people was his failing intellect. Very convenient for Vance, this Epstein business. Too obvious a move for Vance maybe ? I don't think so. Vance unfortunately, is an infinitely subtler and much nastier man than trump, again IMO. Change my mind 😀

cross-post from the Southport thread, also relevant here

Britain was on a knife edge when Lucy Connolly, a mother and former nanny, tapped out an inflammatory 51-word post on social media a year ago, calling for “all” hotels that house asylum seekers to be set on fire. “If that makes me a racist, so be it,” she added, a postscript that did nothing to spare her the wrath of the country’s courts.

Her post was viewed 310,000 times. Now serving a 31-month prison sentence for inciting racial hatred, Ms. Connolly has become a charged symbol in a debate over whether Britain is suppressing free speech. Last month, an appeals court refused to reduce her sentence, drawing angry protests from her defenders, mainly on the political right.

Ms. Connolly’s arrest came during a fevered period after the killing of three young girls by a British son of Rwandan migrants, which ignited anti-immigrant riots across the country. She is one of thousands of people arrested in Britain each year for sending or posting offensive messages, which can include those that are “indecent or grossly offensive” if they are intended to cause distress to the recipient.

Critics, including Vice President JD Vance and Elon Musk, accuse Britain of backsliding in the age of social media. They point to a thicket of laws, some old, some new, combined with overly zealous policing, and a perception, on the right and the left, that law enforcement is biased against their points of view.

Britain, they say, is restricting speech in ways that affect “not just the British,” as Mr. Vance put it in February in an Oval Office meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, “but also affect American technology companies and, by extension, American citizens.”
Mr. Starmer gives no ground when asked to respond to Mr. Vance’s claim that “free speech, I fear, is in retreat.”

“We’ve had free speech in the United Kingdom for a very long time, hundreds of years,” the prime minister said in an interview with The New York Times in March. “But there are exceptions to free speech — pedophiles and terrorists are two of them — and I have no qualms about that.”

Good to see C4 showing the protests against the creature. I haven't seen other platforms doing that. Let him know he's not welcome. One lady mentioned her friend having her house searched by security. How fucking dare they? Just because a twat of a politician decides to holiday in your village, after slagging us off, they think they have the right to go into your house! Well the protestors showed him we do have free speech here, contrary to what he lies about.

I see he's meeting Farage tomorrow. Does anyone know where? Just asking for a friend who may want to welcome them too.

Maybe they could have a double milkshake!

Read this after reading something on twitter about the police going house to house asking who lived there and what their social media accounts are. It's true. All for J D Vance. I would, of course be telling them to go forth and multiply if I lived there:

Lammy in Rod Licence scandal.

But what about Vance? And his kids? Did they have rod licences?
He probably has immunity. I think they spare the rod for anyone with immunity

I’ll get me coat

"JD Vance claps when the plane lands" read one of the placards of protestors in the Cotswolds.
Is that equivalent to thanking the bus driver?
Is it as bad as supporting genocide?
