personally I think he has shit lines, leaden flow and is generally a bit of a knob
Dont know if hes a knob or not, but definitely agree he has many shit lines and a bankers leaden flow. Interesting that he has so much cross over appeal - don't quite see what it revolves around. Beyonce?

I would never listen to anything by him and had kind of automatically assumed he would be a bit of a cock - but in Alan Yentob's Imagine feature on him (last year?) he came across as surprisingly sound and I had almost warmed to him by the end....

Didnt see that, but I could imagin him being a nice enough guy. he seems like more of a producer than a rapper to me

Not shit but far from interesting.

So much stuff beats the living shit out JayZ actually....

and that linkin park album(which was actually fairly good, considering its parts) won him a few fans and possibly working with coldplay.

Oh and its nas people, not naz:mad::mad:

Not shit. Easily one of my most favourite artists of all time with the Black Album and Reasonable Doubt being some of my most favourite albums ever.

I'm just an older than I'd care to admit girl from the West Country who doesn't know shit about hip hop, so who cares about my opinion?

Isn't Jay Zed the Hip-Hop equivalent of Robbie Williams? With Naz playing the Gary Barlow role.

This though, is fucking brilliant! :D Although I approve more of Nas being cast as Gary Barlow than equating Mr Carter to Robbie Williams :hmm:

Nope. Because he's witty and clever and insightful more than your average rapper and puts on an amazing show. He's a performer. How many people were impressed, nay, blown away by him at Glasto cos of the aforementioned?

For example, my day who is Dutch, 50+, admittedly fairly liberal but a tin of Pringles is more hip hop than he is saw him at Glasto and bought tix to see him at Wireless (but didn't get me one ) as soon as he got home cos he was so impressed by his performance at Glasto

Can't believe how the UK has jumped on the Jay-Z bandwagon after that Glasto incident..they never gave a crap about him before then...

Saw him play live once, his delivery wasn't great but he had a good rapport with the crowd. Seems pretty sound in interviews etc.

He's one of those artists that I just honestly cannot understand how it's possible to not rate. I just honestly don't get it; always loved him, he is pushing his sound in new directions constantly, always willing to experiment and mix it up, great lyricist...I don't get the haters at all. I could see you might be pissed off with him basically positioning himself as the Napoleon Bonaparte of hip hop though.

Brooklyn (Go Hard) is a great track nobody has mentioned - that is straight off my head. D.O.A., Empire State of Mind, Onto the Next one all off the new album

Lots of people in the UK got onboard with Jay-Z after Glasto cos that was the first time they'd been exposed to him for any noticeable length I'd say

Also, the mainstream media had to come to terms with the fact that Britpop died that evening. Took their time with it.

Again, whiny little boys who never got past other whiny little boys wittering on about things kicking like a sleep twitch or whatever the fuck bloc party et al are on about, suddenly realising there is OTHER music. Other better, more joyful, more inspirational tuneage!

This ^^^ I know absolutely fuck all about hip hop and even less about Jay-Z but he totally blew me away that night. The atmosphere was amazing and he won the crowd over within 5 minutes.

The reason Jay-Z is so rich and popular, when he isn`t that great a rapper or musician, is because he is a puppet of the elite, he reflects how hip hop has become subjugated and neutered. This is why he has been pushed forward rather than greater talents.
Nowadays Hip hop doesn`t pose a threat to the system and is palatable to the middle/upper classes. High society wanna hang out with Jay-Z, who promotes capitalist values, along with Kanye and Puffy.

Thankfully there`s still great hip hop out there.
the old school know that Jay-Z is a sell out
