Japanese Knotwood and threatening neighbours

I am not convinced. I couldn't get all the way down there, because it is spider season, and it's all a bit overgrown down by the lilies. I did, however, just take some photos of it, and it isn't flowering like the stuff in those links, and doesn't have the stems/stalks/trunks like that.

Now, it might be that there is another plant further down the alley which is what is causing the concern, but I certainly can't get there, because that would involve battling even more possible spider homes! But I am feeling a bit reassured at the moment... I suppose I should wait to see if this gardener chap phones me back...

Okay, the gardener chap tells me that I do have knotweed in the alley. He spotted it when he was here fixing the fence, but didn't think I needed to worry about it, because it is not in my garden. He didn't sound worried. Says he works with a garden that has it in a corner, and he simply contains it. I asked him to come round and quote for getting rid of it, so I can talk to the proper neighbours.

Perhaps the weird anonymous neighbour has a point, after all! :)

I found the Garden Law Forums very helpful.

Also, you can download copy of your house plans and register for £3 each from Land Register Online, which may shed some light on the back alley boundaries/access rights.

:)

I already know that the bit beyond my garage is part of my property, and that I have to allow access across it to the one neighbour on my right. Each house has the same, and they have to allow access, too. I believe the far bit, where the alley turns onto the road, is probably owned by the house at the end, but I am not sure about that bit.

I think I am going to get this sorted, but it is going to cost me money, at a time when I am skinter than usual anyway, and discovered last night that my car exhaust has a hole in it, which is also going to cost me money! :(

Oops, the plant I was looking at was not the Japanese Knotweed! That is further round, and actually not about to encroach onto my garden at all. That's how ditzy I am when it comes to garden things...

You need to get some gun gum - will do the job perfectly, and for about £3.

I bought my house last year and didn't notice that I had Japanese Knotweed growing from under the gravelboard which leads on to a neighbouring garden at the bottom of my garden.
I used 'Roundup' which contains Glyphosate, sprayed it on twice a week until late autumn when it finally died off (in my garden anyway)
So far this year, its not returned but I'm prepared for the long battle as i'm assuming it will return at some point.

Good luck!

One of my proper next door neighbours says he is going to claim on his insurance, and that we should get someone in to get rid of it!

I don't believe insurance would cover it, but who knows? I didn't even know what a sycamore was!
