How did they test nuclear bombs without killing hundreds of thousands of people? It is not as big and unpopulated as the Arizona Desert surely. :confused:

They used to test the normal high explosive detonators used in nuclear bombs obviously without the nuclear material. They also did vibration testing and destruction testing to see if they would go off while in transit. Also they used to air drop test them. Interesting site and very sinister when you realize what it was used for.

Oh my word, did an explosion ever occur? We should be told even if it is a state secret.

As far as I know nothing exploded by accident - we will never know the full truth! Some of the buildings had a special design so if an explosion occurred they vented the force through openings around the roof.

Just down the coast from there is Shingle Street which also has a sinister mystery about bodies being washed up on the beach in the 1940's.
