you're not a big bodice fan either then Dub...?

i fucking LOATHE costume dramas. You can tell it's a dreary sunday before going back to work because they're showing some overwrought toss about a fallen woman's love for a glowering aristocrat

toilet, frankly

Oi Dub.. when are you picking up the fucking TV bench then?...

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of my life.

:D

i never watched it btw, just so you know. i never watch costume dramas. last night was a one-off that i won't be repeating even though it wasn't as awful an experience as i thought it would be. as an alternative to scrapping with a drunk boyfriend it was fine. but that's as far as i'll be taking it, i won't be watching the next episode. unless chegrimandi's telling me i don't respect his covert plans to blow up a local fast food establishment again, that is. so yeh actually, i may be tuning in next week after all :)

heh, that made me giggle. you're a funny lady dolly.

(sorry cheg, not stirring, honest. i mean it - she's funny!) :D

I've always been a bit wary of adaptations like this, many have been done really badly - probably cos of worthy literary types doing it ... and then it doesn't come across too well on visual media

however, the gf half twisted my arm to see this ... and I'm bloody hooked! I've not read all that much bronte, but this is fantastic! The camerawork, visual impact and the performances of the two central characters are brilliant....

can't wait until the last one tonight!

It was absolutely brilliant
I was crying my eyes out at the end
Occasionally some of the low light camera work was a bit grainy but that's my only complaint.
It was interesting in terms of the stigma attached to insanity in the family too. The BBC have made a prequel, presumably to add a human element to the whole business. At the time your mum is mad = you can't get married. Simple as that.
I love period dramas if they're done well and this was IMO excellent

Corsets and togas are my faves, not at the same time of course.

i flicked over to this a few times last night and caught a bit more.

i remember the book well from my youth - does anyone else think that the bloke playing Rochester is a crap actor and nothing like they imagined Rochester to be?

there's fucking nothing wrong with liking costume dramas. They just talk about stuff that was better articulated by the likes of the Brontes than the like of fucking Jeremy Kyle. I was crying my eyes out and I'm glad my flatmate was out watching Nosferatu at the Ritzy instead, though I should have watched it with him.

A bit late...

...but I was a bit disappointed.

There again, after the BBC produced P&P, every other period drama is most likely to disappoint.

Skipped too much and you could tell.
