They should have buried the franchise after Goldeneye. After that it descended into absurd self-parody to the point where they then had to strip all the parody elements out completely, play everything totally straight and leave something even more shit. Goldeneye was great though, probably the only one that could stand alone as a decent film outside of the franchise.

Goldeneye was utter bollocks and apart from the Michelle Yeo one, each instalment was even worse.

By the time Casino Royale came around, I was ready to hate it.

How wrong was I? Utterly brilliant and much more in tune with the books. Yeah, Quantum was humdrum, more of a coda, but still - DC is excellent in the role.

Is Bond pointless? Pah - is any franchise supposed to have a point other than to entertain?

Casino Royale was forgettable to the point that I couldn't remember it half an hour after watching it. A problem compounded by the fact that the Quantum of Nonsense followed straight on from it.

J_C had it right one-and-a-half years ago. There are no memorable bad guys. Nothing that you can get your teeth into. No archetype for their arch-villain. Which is fine if you have a skilled writer and director, but Casino Royale wasn't even close.

Just... boring. Boring, boring, boring.

You can do the souldead killer angle without making it boring, as Bourne proved. But Casino Royale wasn't even close.

Goldeneye was a great restarting of the franchise, but it's dated badly.

The opening scene is probably the greatest in all the Bond films though (Bungee, 006, gunfight, Sean Bean getting head shot, explosions, motorcycle, freefall into a plane, and final shot as he pulls it out of the dive and the factory explodes behind him)

That's what I want from a Bond film, cold murder and ridiculous escapes.

Loved Casino Royale, QOS left me cold.

The posts above are right, a better villain is needed.

the 70s ones are great - they oozed glam and let a bit of escapism into people lives - drives sports cars, going to places like the Caribbean & skiing and shit werent on the radar of activities for most people

now that everyone ski, everyone potentially could own an aston martin ( with a bit of credit obv ) s and everyone has been to Brazil/Jamiaca/Thailand etc ( broad brushtrokes ), the older ones do look a bit dated

They were more like fantasy Alan Wicker for 70's viewers
